Saratoga: Caleb’s Posse ships out ahead of storm

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Caleb’s Posse, who nipped Uncle Mo right at the wire to add the Grade 1 King’s Bishop to his easy victory earlier this summer in the Grade 2 Amsterdam, wasted little time getting out of town. Trainer Donnie Von Hemel put his 3-year-old sprint star on a van to Arlington Park at 4 a.m. Sunday morning, getting on the road before the brunt of Hurricane Irene passed through the area later that day.

“It’s always high on any trainer’s to-do list to win a Grade 1 at Saratoga, and I was lucky enough to accomplish that feat on Saturday,” Von Hemel said. “I was both thrilled with my horse’s performance and happy for my clients as well.”

Caleb’s Posse is owned by the partnership of the McNeill and Cheyenne Stables.

“It’s a little too soon to say where or when he might run next,” said Von Hemel, who indicated the Breeders’ Cup Sprint or Dirt Mile would likely be the ultimate goal later this fall.”
