Saratoga: Air Support to skip Secretariat Stakes
Barbara D. Livingston Air Support will skip Saturday's Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Air Support, winner of the $600,000 Virginia Derby on July 16, will skip Saturday’s Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park, trainer Shug McGaughey said Monday.
“He’s fine, I didn’t think he was fine enough to go out there for a Grade 1,” McGaughey said. “I think he needs more time. He worked very well last Monday, but his daily routine I haven’t been overly happy with.”
McGaughey said Air Support would run in either the Grade 3, $100,000 Saranac here Sept. 4 or wait for the Grade 1 Jamaica at Belmont Park in October.
