Sarah’s Passion wins career debut in Shine Young Futurity

Sarah’s Passion won her career debut in the $75,000 fillies’ division of the D.S. “Shine” Young Futurity on Friday night at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, La. She darted to a three-quarter-length win over Todayisnottheday, while it was another 1 3/4 lengths back to Tensas Weezy in third.
The 5 1/2-furlong race was restricted to 2-year-old fillies bred in Louisiana.
Sarah’s Passion ($8) settled just off the pace set by Joe G’s Payback, the 4-5 favorite who took the field through the early fractions, including an opening quarter in 22.09 seconds. Sarah’s Passion advanced, moved past the leader in the stretch, and went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:06.36.
Colby Hernandez was aboard the winner for trainer Ricky Courville.
Sarah’s Passion is a daughter of Songandaprayer who races for her breeder, Perform Stables. For her debut win, she earned $45,000.
