Sarah Sis targets Humana Distaff

Sarah Sis, who has wintered at Oaklawn and is now based at Keeneland, is being pointed for the Grade 1 Humana Distaff, according to trainer Ingrid Mason. The seven-furlong race for fillies and mares is on the Kentucky Derby card May 7 at Churchill Downs.
Sarah Sis is a Grade 2 winner at the distance, having taken last year’s Raven Run at Keeneland.
“I was planning on running her in the Madison [at Keeneland], and she got a bit of a fever, so we had to skip that race,” Mason said Tuesday. “She’s doing great now. She’s at Keeneland.”
Sarah Sis is a three-time graded stakes winner who has earned $601,900.
Marquee Miss, a multiple stakes winner at this meet, also is now based at Keeneland. She ran third in the Grade 3 Bourbonette Oaks last weekend at Turfway and is being considered for the Kentucky Oaks. Mason is keeping an eye on the race developments and points standings leading up to the May 6 race at Churchill Downs.
“She’s No. 15 on the list,” Mason said Tuesday. “I don’t think she’ll get in at this point.”
Mason said an alternate plan with Marquee Miss is the Grade 2, $200,000 Eight Belles. The seven-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies is May 6 at Churchill Downs.
Marquee Miss won the Martha Washington and Dixie Belle at this meet.
Mason is closing out a strong meet at Oaklawn, where she’s tied for 10th in the standings entering Wednesday’s races. She will now split her stable.
“I’m sending some horses to Keeneland and will keep horses at Churchill all year this year,” she said. “I also will have horses at Arlington.”
