Santulli buys interest in Capac

Richard Santulli has purchased a 25 percent interest in Capac, a 3-year-old Deputy Minister colt who registered a 97 Beyer Speed Figure in an impressive maiden victory on closing weekend of the Churchill Downs fall meet.

Majority interest in Capac has been retained by John Fike, a retired internist who lives in North Canton, Ohio, and is a longtime owner and breeder. Capac is in training in Camden, S.C., with Mike Bell.

Santulli, a New Jersey businessman who usually runs in the name of Jayeff B Stable, has owned or been a partner in numerous top horses, including Safely Kept in the early 1990's. Jim Schenck, a Lexington, Ky., bloodstock agent who works for Fike, said the price for a quarter-interest in Capac was "in the mid-six figures."

Schenck said Capac probably will make his next start in about three weeks in an allowance race at one of three tracks: Aqueduct, Laurel, or Fair Grounds.
