Santa Anita: Tiz Flirtatious will race again in 2014

ARCADIA, Calif. – The Grade 1 winner Tiz Flirtatious will stay in training in 2014, trainer Marty Jones said last weekend.
A 5-year-old mare, Tiz Flirtatious is likely to race in the spring at Santa Anita.
“We’ll run her next year,” Jones said. “She’ll get a couple of months off and it will take her a couple of months to get ready. You’ll see her in April or May.”
A six-time stakes winner, Tiz Flirtatious has won 8 of 14 starts and earned $779,800. She won the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita in September, and was sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf there on Nov. 2.
Tiz Flirtatious, owned by breeder Pamela Ziebarth, was fifth in the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes on Dec. 1 in her last start.
“She’s a pretty special horse,” Jones said. “It came down to Pam wanting to see her run another year.”
Kathleen Rose auditions for stakes
Kathleen Rose may be one start away from her stakes debut.
A 3-year-old filly, Kathleen Rose starts in a first-level optional $25,000 claimer for California-bred fillies and mares over a mile on turf in Friday’s seventh race at Santa Anita. Trainer Mike Machowsky said a successful race on Friday could lead to a start in the $125,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint on the hillside turf course on Jan. 25.
“She’s getting better,” Machowsky said. “She acts like she has the talent.”
Owned by breeders B&B Zietz Stables, Kathleen Rose has not raced since winning a maiden race on the hillside turf course at Santa Anita on Nov. 3. Machowsky said he deliberately skipped the fall meeting at Hollywood Park.
“She had a couple of hard races at Santa Anita,” he said. “It worked for her to have a break.”
Kathleen Rose is a part of a field of seven in Friday’s race. By Good Journey, Kathleen Rose has 1 win in 4 starts and earnings of $53,750.
Auction of Hollywood items
Hollywood Park is conducting a massive auction of track property on racetrack grounds on Jan. 24-25.
The auction includes a wide array of items from the broadcast department, print shop, track maintenance equipment, and restaurant, snack bar and kitchen supplies.
For more horse-oriented enthusiasts, there is a collection of artwork available. The items will be available for a preview on Jan. 22-23 at the racetrack.

Nakatani must sit three days
Jockey Corey Nakatani has been suspended three racing days – Jan. 4-9 – for causing interference aboard race winner Christopher Street in the first race last Saturday.
Nakatani was cited for altering course in the stretch without sufficient clearance in a $50,000 claimer over a mile on turf. Christopher Street won the race by a head over Imperative. The stewards conducted an inquiry into the stretch run but did not change the order of finish, stating that the incident did not affect the placings.
Nakatani’s suspension covers racing on Jan. 4, 5, and 9.
Omission in program draws fine
Hollywood Park has been fined $500 after the track’s racing department failed to denote that Big Man in Town was racing as a gelding in the second race on Nov. 29, according to a ruling issued by the stewards.
Big Man in Town finished last of six as a 32-1 outsider. Stewards said the program accurately denoted that Big Man in Town was racing as a gelding, but did not include the required footnote at the bottom of the program stating that he was racing as a gelding for the first time.
