Santa Anita slates eight stakes for opening weekend Dec. 26-27
Santa Anita has scheduled eight stakes, including six graded races, for the opening weekend of the winter-spring meeting on Dec. 26-27.
The full stakes schedule will be released in November, racing officials said Sunday.
The Dec. 26 card will have six stakes, including three Grade 1 races for 3-year-olds worth $300,000 each – the Malibu Stakes at seven furlongs, the La Brea Stakes for fillies at seven furlongs, and the American Oaks at 1 1/4 miles on turf for fillies.
The other stakes on the program are the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile for 3-year-olds on turf, the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes at 1 1/16 miles for older horses, and the Lady of Shamrock Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at a mile on turf.
There are two turf stakes scheduled for the Dec. 27 program – the Grade 3 Robert Frankel Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles and the Eddie Logan Stakes for 2-year-olds at a mile.
