Santa Anita schedules makeup day for Feb. 24

Santa Anita will race on Friday, Feb. 24, a late addition to the racing schedule following cancellations caused by rain last month.

Santa Anita lost three days of racing (Jan. 1, 14 and 16) in the first half of January because of excessive rain. The track conducted a makeup day on Friday, Jan. 20.

A third make-up day is under consideration for Friday, April 21, depending on the availability of race-ready horses in the spring, track officials said last weekend.

The track is scheduled to have a break in April. Racing will be held through April 9, and is scheduled to resume on Saturday, April 22. The break is designed as a springtime rest for horses and humans. The season concludes on June 18.
