Santa Anita to restore parlay wagering
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEARCADIA, Calif. – Parlay wagering in win, place, and show pools will resume Thursday after an absence of several years, according to Santa Anita director of operations John Perrotta.
The option was introduced in the 1990’s and later discontinued because of a lack of interest, track officials said at the time.
Perrotta, who joined Santa Anita’s staff last month, said customers had requested that parlay betting be reinstated.
“I had so many people ask me to bring it back,” he said.
Parlay wagering allows customers to link horses in win, place, or show pools through multiple races.
Fault joins D’Amato stable
Fault, the winner of the Grade 3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington Park last August, recently joined trainer Phil D’Amato’s stable in California and is being considered for the Grade 2 Buena Vista Stakes at a mile on turf Feb. 17.
Owned by Mark Martinez’s Agave Racing Stable, Fault had her first workout at Santa Anita on Tuesday – a half-mile in 48.40 seconds on the infield training track.
Previously trained by Michelle Lovell, Fault, 4, was fourth in the Pago Hop Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 30 after a troubled trip in a race at about a mile on turf for fillies and mares.
“She had the worst trip I’ve seen in a long time,” D’Amato said. “She went from fourth or fifth to dead last and re-rallied.”
Fault has won 3 of 13 starts and earned $198,795. She was third in the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes at Belmont Park last September.
