Benoit & Associates Reenesgotzip, under Corey Nakatani, coasts to a 7 3/4-length win in the Santa Ynez.

ARCADIA, Calif.- Reneesgotzip is almost too fast for her own good.

In Sunday’s $150,000 Santa Ynez Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Santa Anita, Reneesgotzip was running so quickly entering the stretch that jockey Corey Nakatani allowed her to drift several paths away from the rail. Reneesgotzip had such momentum that she only expanded her lead, going from a half-length lead on the turn to four lengths in the stretch and 7 3/4 lengths at the wire.

Trained by Peter Miller, Reneesgotzip ($4) ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:15.25.

“Corey said she shied from the quarter pole and got a little spooked,” Miller said. “She’s still green and doesn’t know everything we want her to do. She had so much ability that she overcame it.”

Owned by the Lanni Family Trust, Reneesgotzip led throughout the Grade 2 Santa Ynez. Breaking from post 2 in a field of six, she led by a length on the backstretch through an early pace of 22.31 and 45.06 seconds. None of her five rivals offered a threat in the stretch.

Made to Love Her, the winner of the Moccasin Stakes at Hollywood Park in November, closed from fifth to finish second, a length in front of 16-1 Painted Woman. Rowdy Gal was fourth, followed by Candrea and Lady Hokulea.

Miller said that Reneesgotzip will be tried at longer distance in the future. One option could be the $250,000 Las Virgenes Stakes, a Grade 1 over a mile on March 3. By City Zip, Reneesgotzip is unbeaten in two starts, having won a maiden race at Hollywood Park over six furlongs on Dec. 18.
