RACE 5: FREEDOM’S NOT FREE (No. 3) didn’t fare well in his last two, but those came routing. This shorter trip plays better for him, and he has handled the hill well. SORRENTO SKY (No. 6) fits well with these and has handled the hill. SUMTER (No. 1) is a tough old pro who has done some good work on the hill. (3)
RACE 6: NOT SO MERRY MARY (No. 3) looks headed the right way. SAUCED UP (No. 1) wasn’t far behind the top pick here Aug 30. (2)
RACE 7: ATITLAN (No. 7) has been knocking on the door and might be ready to break through on his favorite course. ATOMIC AGE (No. 3) finished just behind the top pick in that Del Mar Grade 2, so he fits. SINSEI (No. 2) might benefit from his last and this longer trip. He showed big talent in his native Brazil. MONDEGO (No. 1) is a solid fit in a spot like this. (4)
RACE 8: NEVADA BEACH (No. 9) was sharp last fall/winter and has been freshened since finding the deepest waters (Group 1 Saudi Cup) too much to handle. He’s worked well for this and faces no one like that type of competition here. MCAFEE (No. 3) looked like a new horse with that romp July 3 at Saratoga and might be ready for this tougher task and shipping across the country for a sharp trainer. (2)
RACE 9: LITTLE OPAL (No. 10) looked super winning her first two starts, both turf sprints, and might be ready for this class hike. DAY TO DAY (No. 8) comes off some solid routes versus toughies and is proven sprinting. BRAVE DEB (No. 3) hasn’t run in almost 11 months but was well regarded enough to get a shot at the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf when last seen last fall. RUN WITH LIBERTY (No. 9) returns to the site of her two big turf wins when starting her career in the spring. (4)
RACE 10: To avoid an exorbitant ticket you have to take a stand somewhere, and we’ll do so with ZUZU’S CLASSIC GAL (No. 3). She’s shown turf talent, her best work has come sprinting, and she’s back to that game. (1)
