Santa Anita pick six carryover at $663,694

Steve Andersen|Dec 29, 2001

ARCADIA, Calif. - The pick six at Santa Anita on Saturday features a carryover of $663,694 after bettors failed to conquer the bet on the first two days of the meeting.

On Friday, only one favorite, Earl of Danby in the seventh race, succeeded during the pick six.

Saturday's pick six starts in the fourth race, a maiden race for 2-year-old fillies over 6 1/2 furlongs. Trainer John Dolan starts Greeley Creek and Hay Whatsamaddau, who are 5-2 on the morning line.

In the fifth race, Lookn East will be favored for trainer Jeff Mullins. Our Magistrate and More Modern have been scratched, allowing Upsanddowns and Legendary Weave to draw in from the also-eligible list.

The sixth race features a maiden race for California-bred sprinters. Prince Cash is scratched and Got the Message. Hideaway Cafe is the top contender at 3-1 on the morning line.

There are no changes in the seventh race, but Sing Because, who takes a drop in class, will be well backed. One to follow is 10-1 Big Team Spirit, who is trained by Steve Knapp. On Friday, Knapp's horses ran well even though they did not win.

The eighth race is the final Grade 1 of 2001, the $200,000 La Brea Stakes for 3-year-old fillies over seven furlongs. There are 12 starters in a field led by Above Perfection, who ran second to Xtra Heat in the Prioress Stakes at Belmont Park last summer.

The finale is a wide-open race for 2-year-old maidens entered for claiming prices ranging from $28,000 to $32,000. Olivejuice, Famous Lady Ann, Lolo Creek and Millennial Meeting are scratching, allowing Passion for Purple and The Mews to draw in.

First post time is 12:30 p.m.
