ARCADIA, Calif. – Breeders’ Cup race week at Santa Anita begins Thursday with a two-day pick six carryover of $439,663.

The carryover was announced after 8-1 Bio Pro won Sunday’s eighth race. With a three-day break between racing days, the pool of new money could surpass $2 million on Thursday.

There are eight races Thursday, with the pick six covering the third through eighth.

The pick six races start with a one-mile turf race for $40,000 claimers that drew 10 runners but will have a safety limit of eight starters. The temporary turf rails will be 30 feet from the permanent position Thursday.

The fourth race is a maiden race for 2-year-olds over 1 1/16 miles that drew seven runners, a field led by Hold Everything and Kristo.

The fifth race will be run on the hillside turf course for $40,000 claimers. The race drew 14, but there will be only 10 starters. One tricky horse is Mr. Bossy Pants. He was leading a $40,000 claimer in the final furlong Oct. 5, when he drifted out badly and finished third, beaten a neck. There will be support for Hotradamus, an allowance race winner Sept. 27.

The sixth race is the $70,000 Big Bear Stakes over a mile. There are six runners, including five stakes winners – Drill, Summer Hit, Rousing Sermon, Rail Trip, and Majestic City. Soi Phet has yet to win a stakes but was third in the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes here Sept. 28.

The last two races drew big fields.

The seventh, an optional claimer on the hillside turf course, drew 14 runners but will have only 10 starters.

The final race is a maiden claimer for fillies and mares over 6 1/2 furlongs that drew a field of 14.

General admission will be free Thursday, the track announced after racing Sunday.
