Santa Anita: Pick-six carryover of $325,423 for Sunday
ARCADIA, Calif.- The carryover in the single ticket jackpot pool at Santa Anita has soared past $300,000, but only because Miner’s Light won Saturday’s ninth race by a nose.
Miner’s Light ($23.20) caught 102-1 Malibu Music in the last stride to win a maiden race at 1 1/8 miles on turf. A win by Malibu Music would have resulted in a payoff of more than $500,000 in the pick six, a sum that would have included the single ticket jackpot carryover of $287,404 from Friday.
Malibu Music was the only horse in Saturday’s ninth race that could have produced a payoff of the single ticket jackpot pool. There were multiple pick six tickets in contention to the other 11 runners.
The pick six paid $12,036 to 15 ticketholders.
Because Miner’s Light prevailed, the single ticket jackpot carryover will begin on Sunday at $325,423.
The single ticket portion of the pick six has not been hit since May 4.
The winners of Saturday’s pick six races were Honor and Courage ($6.60), Lady Eli ($3.20), Taman Guard ($5.60), Illuminant ($5.20), Cupid ($16), and Miner’s Light.
Lady Eli and Taman Guard were favored. Honor and Courage and Illuminant were the second choices.
Consolation tickets with five winners paid $77.
The pick six pool reached $332,116 on Saturday.
Sunday’s pick six covers the fourth through ninth races on a program that begins at 1 p.m. Pacific. The day’s main race is the Grade 2 Charles Whittingham Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on turf, the seventh race.
