Santa Anita: Pick six carryover of $226,505 for Saturday

Steve Andersen|Mar 14, 2014

ARCADIA, Calif. – There is a two-day pick six carryover of $226,505 for Saturday’s nine-race program at Santa Anita.

Upset wins by Ancient Stone ($40.80) and Boozer ($42.20) in consecutive races Friday clinched the carryover. The pool of new money could exceed $1 million.

Saturday’s pick six covers the fourth through ninth races on a program that begins at 12:30 p.m. Pacific.

There are two stakes in Saturday’s pick six – the fourth race, the $100,000 Irish O’Brien Stakes for California-bred females on the hillside turf course; and the seventh race, the $350,000 Santa Margarita Stakes for females over 1 1/8 miles.

Dancingtothestars, the winner of the minor Megahertz Stakes in January, is the 2-1 morning-line favorite for the Irish O’Brien, a slight choice over Ciao Bella Luna (5-2) in a field of seven.

The fifth race is a starter allowance over 1 1/16 miles. Boss of Me is the lukewarm 5-2 favorite on the morning line.

There are 12 runners in the sixth, a maiden race over a mile on turf for 3-year-olds. Perfect Cursive and Kissin Lucky Lips were scratched Friday. Star Act (Gary Stevens) may go favored.

Iotapa, the winner of the Santa Maria Stakes in February, is a slight favorite on the morning line to beat Fiftyshadesofhay in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita, which drew a field of eight.

The eighth race is a solid allowance race over 1 1/8 miles on turf. Di Giorgio, Si Sage, and Rookie Sensation are all qualified to win and will be sent off at prices that reflect their chances.

In the final race, there are nine California-bred maidens running over six furlongs. Heat Flash was withdrawn Friday. Whine for Wine is the mount of leading jockey Rafael Bejarano and is the morning-line favorite.
