Santa Anita pick six carryover at $156,198

Jay Privman|Jan 02, 2004

ARCADIA, Calif. - A healthy pick six pool on Thursday was not hit, so there is a large carryover of $156,198 to Friday's card. The eight-race card begins at 1 pm Pacific time. The pick six is on races three through eight.

Here is a quick overview of the pick six races:

Third - Trainer Bob Hess Jr. has two of the leading contenders in this bottom-level claimer in Clever Miss Caper and Urgent Start. Urgent Start has won her last two starts, and has the better win percentage, so she gets a slight nod.

Fourth - Royal Teresa won her lone start on turf and moves to the barn of Jeff Mullins. Rowan Express makes her first start since being claimed by red-hot Rafael Becerra. Indian Blanket won a similar turf sprint at Hollywood. They are the leading contenders.

Fifth - Missdavilynn returns from a layoff. Her speed makes her tough to catch in a dreadful race. Noble Plan has a sneaky look off the layoff for underrated Mike Puhich.

Sixth - Tender Teen ran well in both her starts at Santa Anita during the Oak Tree meeting and has a series of sharp drills for her return for Canani, who is on fire to start the meet. She might be the most likely winner in the sequence. Mi d'Or and Hagerstown look like the next best, but they appear a cut below.

Seventh - Mike Mitchell's runners are very live so far this season, so both Hotel Hall (a recent addition to his barn) and Prized Gem (much improved in three starts since joining his barn) are preferred. Spensive has been training sensationally for his return. He should fire fresh.

Eighth - Royal Obsession flashed speed against much stronger and should prove an elusive target with this huge class drop. Cosa Segura improved markedly with blinkers last time.
