ARCADIA, Calif. - Obviously, who will be heavily favored to win his fourth consecutive stakes in the $150,000 City of Hope Mile on turf next Saturday, worked five furlongs in 59.80 seconds on the main track on Saturday.

Trained by Mike Mitchell, Obviously was third in the BC Mile last November. He won the Grade 2 Arroyo Seco Mile last October, a race that has been renamed the City of Hope Mile in honor of the nearby cancer research hospital.

Obviously, who will be ridden by Joe Talamo, has won 9 of 16 starts and $968,361. After finishing second to Chips All In the San Simeon in his first start of 2013, Obviously has won three consecutive one-mile stakes – the Grade 2 American Handicap and Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile at Betfair Hollywood Park, and the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile on Aug. 25.

Valdivia works Trinniberg

Trinniberg, the winner of the 2012 BC Sprint, worked a half-mile in 48.60 seconds on Saturday under jockey Jose Valdivia Jr., who will ride the 4-year-old colt in the $150,000 Santa Anita Sprint Championship next Saturday.

It was the second consecutive weekend that Valdivia worked Trinniberg, preceded by a half-mile from the gate in 48.60 seconds on Sept. 21.

“He’s a pretty straightforward horse,” Valdivia said.

DRF Plus Preview

Owned by Sherry Parbhoo, Trinniberg was second in the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Handicap at Calder on July 6 in his most recent start. The Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship is run over six furlongs and is a key prep for the BC Sprint on Nov. 2.
