Santa Anita: Mott has pair for Santa Ana Stakes
ARCADIA, Calif. – Trainer Bill Mott said Tuesday he will have two runners in Sunday’s $200,000 Santa Ana Stakes for fillies and mares on turf, including the three-time Grade 1 winner Emollient.
Owned by Juddmonte Farms, Emollient has not raced since finishing fourth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Santa Anita last November. A 4-year-old, Emollient’s three Grade 1 wins in 2013 were in the Ashland Stakes at Keeneland in April, the American Oaks on turf at Hollywood Park in July, and the Spinster Stakes at Keeneland in October. The Keeneland races were on a Polytrack synthetic surface.
In the BC Filly and Mare Turf, Emollient was beaten a length by the European filly Dank.
For the Grade 2 Santa Ana, Mott also plans to send Floral Romance, who was third in the Grade 3 Endeavour Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs on Jan. 25, the best result in a stakes for the 5-year-old mare, who races for breeders Marty and Pam Wygod.
They will be joined in the 1 1/8-mile Santa Ana by Emotional Kitten, Miss Serendipity, Stormy Lucy, and Topic. Emotional Kitten, trained by Wesley Ward, has not raced since winning the Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs last November.
