Santa Anita Monday card gets canceled due to expected rain

Santa Anita canceled racing on Monday because of a forecast of extensive rain, the track announced on Saturday morning.
The $100,000 Tiznow Stakes for statebred milers on dirt was scheduled for Monday and may be run next Friday, the next scheduled day of racing, the track’s racing department said in a text message.
The track will race on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

Forecasts call for an inch of rain during the day on Monday in the area near Santa Anita, according to accuweather.com. Rain is expected to continue through Tuesday.
Track officials said they plan to run additional races from Friday through Feb. 25 to compensate for the canceled program on Monday.
This is the third weather-related cancellation this month. Racing was not held on Feb. 4 or 9 because of weather issues. A make-up day was held on Thursday this week.
During the 2022-2023 winter-spring meeting, Santa Anita canceled eight days of racing because of higher-than-normal rainfall. The track later held four makeup days.
California tracks are discouraged from racing in severe weather, following inclement weather policies enacted by the California Horse Racing Board in late 2020.
