Santa Anita mall planned

Magna Entertainment intends to proceed with the development of a 51-acre open-air shopping mall on its property at Santa Anita Park in Southern California, the company announced Thursday.

Ron Charles, the chief executive officer of Santa Anita, said that shopping mall would be located south of the Santa Anita grandstand and incorporate parts of the Santa Anita parking lot running east toward Huntington Drive. The mall would have 800,000 square feet of development for retail stores and restaurants.

Plans for the redevelopment are expected to be submitted "early next year" to the Arcadia, Calif., City Council, Magna said in a release.
