Santa Anita: Lone ticket captures $439,362 jackpot payout

Steve Andersen|May 04, 2017

ARCADIA, Calif. - One winning ticket was worth $439,362 in Thursday’s pick six at Santa Anita, a payout that included the single-ticket jackpot portion of the pool.

The jackpot portion had not been hit since April 6.

There was a carryover of $349,792 into the single-ticket pool from Sunday. Bettors added $138,071 on Thursday.

A sequence of beaten favorites led to the single winning ticket, although a victory in the last race by favored Kona Dreams clinched the massive payoff.

The winning ticket was purchased for $5,300 through a Maryland-based betting hub, according to a track statement.

The winners of the pick six races were Demigoddess ($34), Madelyn’s Wild Max ($20.40), Exotic Ghost ($6), Call the Queen ($10.20), Zapperkat ($12.20), and Kona Dreams ($3.80).

The only winning favorites were Exotic Ghost and Kona Dreams.

Going into the seventh race, there were seven tickets still in contention, a group narrowed to one after Zapperkat won as the third choice.

Last month, the single-ticket portion of the pool was hit for $1,199,286 by a bettor who spent $14,400 on a ticket at a satellite wagering facility in Lake Forest, Calif., about 60 miles south of Santa Anita.

Prior to that, the single ticket portion of the pool had not been hit since Feb. 20. The single ticket pool provision of the pick six was introduced at Santa Anita last December.
