Trainer Mike Pender said earlier this week that by pre-entering for both races “we can see what each one shapes up like.”
Owned by B.J. Wright and Robert LaPenta, Jeranimo, 7, finished ninth in his last two starts – the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar on Aug. 25 and the $250,000 Awesome Again Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 28. The Eddie Read Stakes in his most recent race on turf.
A winner of 10 of 37 starts and earner of $1,401,364, Jeranimo has won seven stakes. He was seventh in the 2011 BC Mile at Churchill Downs and sixth in the same race last year at Santa Anita. Jeranimo has not run in a sprint on any surface since a fifth-place finish in the Oakland Handicap on the Tapeta synthetic surface at Golden Gate Fields in October 2010.
