Santa Anita horses to watch: Week of Oct. 19
GLITTER OF SILVER
Trainer: Richard Baltas
Last race: Oct. 11, 3rd
Finish: 2nd by 2 3/4
Beyer: 79
This second-start maiden improved a ton. Sandwiched in a pace duel, fought to wire, finished well clear of third. He will be tough next out in a California-bred maiden sprint.
MUM’S TRUCKEE
Trainer: Peter Miller
Last race: Oct. 11, 8th
Finish: 8th by 3 1/4
Beyer: 73
This hard-pulling filly is worth following if she cuts to a sprint. She pulled hard again in this route, and went flat. In a turf sprint she can be outrun early and kick late at a price.
TIZ A CLASSY LASS
Trainer: Marty Jones
Last race: Oct. 13, 8th
Finish: 2nd by 1
Beyer: 77
A deep closer, this filly was compromised by the race shape in the meet’s first turf route won by a pacesetter. She flew home, ran well, and looks like a low-odds favorite next time vs. California-bred N1X foes.
ONE TIME ONLY
Trainer: Tom Proctor
Last race: Oct. 13, 6th
Finish: 3rd by 3/4
Beyer: 71
A second-start maiden switching to grass, she was caught in a pace duel, shook off her rival, but got swallowed late. Good effort by lightly raced Lemon Drop Kid filly who is a sibling to top sprint filly Agave Kiss.
LONDON FROG
Trainer: David Hofmans
Last race: Oct. 13, 5th
Finish: 5th by 9 1/2
Beyer: 53
A first-time starter, this Afleet Alex filly was not quick, raced greenly late, and finished one-paced. Bred to run long, she can be followed as the distances increase.
