Santa Anita: DRF Plus handicapping report for October 6, 2013

webmaster|Oct 05, 2013

Race 1

Spot Play

Third-time starter WATER ISSUES (#7, 9-2) can win this maiden-claiming sprint. She was “given” a race first out, and had trouble second out. Blinkers are on.- Brad Free

Race 2

Race 3

Spot Play

Diamond Bachelor this, Diamond Bachelor that. Sure, he’s looked good in two wins, but he is a forwardly placed horse in a race with other speed, particularly Station House, whose connections say their horse needs to run free at this point in career. GOT SHADES (#3, 7-2) can keep in touch, get good setup. In good hands.- Marcus Hersh

Race 4

Vulnerable Favorite

The most likely winner also is vulnerable. EVEN TO THE MOON (#7, 5-2) ran well both starts in Del Mar, but now changes surfaces and distance for a stable that is not exactly rolling.- Brad Free

Race 5

Spot Play

Second-time starter MY SECRET AFFAIR (#5, 2-1) was bet to favoritism in his mid-August debut, steadied early, lost position, and raced evenly to finish fourth in a productive race. The 2-year-old is sure to improve a ton second out.- Brad Free

Spot Play

MY SECRET AFFAIR (#5, 2-1) broke slowly in his main-track debut at DMR Aug.17 as the 8-5 favorite but kept to his task decently to pass a few rivals and finish 4th. That was an encouraging first run, one that looks even better when you note the 2nd and 3rd finishers both came right back to win and the winner is set to run today in the Zuma Beach. He’s been freshened, worked well since, keeps Bejarano and is by strong turf sire Broken Vow, so the move to the hillside may be just what he wants. -Michael Hammersly

Spot Play

DOTHRAKI (#8, 30-1) this one’s not for the faint of heart, but he does have some turf breeding with Rock Hard Ten on top and trainer has used jock on a couple of longshot winners. –Chuck Kuehhas

Race 9

Spot Play

Career maiden BOBS PAL (#2, 10-1) has a closing style that suits the turf course profile. He can sit, wait and rally late for a minor upset in this route for state-bred maidens.- Brad Free

Spot Play

ROB'S PAL (#2,10-1) made big move into slow pace last out at DMR in career-best showing that will mainly be overlooked by the bettors, but I think he might just have come back from extended layoff a better horse. Should get very favorable setup saving ground.- Marcus Hersh

Spot Play

ACCOMPLISH (#3, 8-1) nice effort in debut and this Vronksy 3yo colt may take to the turf for trainer who has won with 2nd time starters stretching out in the past. –Chuck Kuehhas
