Spot PlayBIG BREAK (#3, 8-1) won her $50K maiden claiming debut here March 29 like a real comer, and she was claimed that day, too. They thought enough of her to next try the Santa Paula. That didn’t work so well and next came her first route, her first try on turf and first try vs. elders here May 2 and again, that didn’t go well. Knapp moves her back to sprinting and back to dirt and puts blinkers on for the first time (1 for last 3, 33%), and 2 big recent bullet works say she’s feeling good and the move to this footing/trip may be just what the Dr. ordered. -Michael Hammersly

Vulnerable FavoriteTRIBAL DUDE (#4, 5-2) certainly merits respect what with the major drop (straight maiden to maiden claiming) and having shown fine turf talent when last seen. Trouble is, ‘when last seen’ was a year ago so that’s a long layoff to deal with. Been working well and of course the aforementioned drop is significant, though they’re now willing to part with him for a tag – hey, they don’t give anything away out here. -Michael Hammersly
