Spot PlayAFTERMARKETSLAM (#5, 7-2) ran well at first asking to be second on the Tapeta at GG, and will probably be overlooked coming down to SoCal; seems likely to enjoy racing down the hill, and the price should still close to the morning line, if not go higher, if the public hammers favored Eddie’s First, as expected. –Byron King

Vulnerable FavoriteMENSA HEAT (#5, 9-5) is a real good fit at this level as shown by 2 fine recent outings (a win Feb. 13; 2nd April 4) vs. this caliber. That being said, you may be taking a short price on a horse who while certainly a tough old pro (you don’t win 10 times by accident) has just that one aforementioned win since the fall of 2012 and he faces a few droppers who could cause him problems. -Michael Hammersly

Spot PlayTROY STORY (#9, 3-1) has had lots of chances, yes, but the 5yo gelding may finally be ready to bust through. He’s run a number of good races the past couple seasons. He was a solid 2nd in a turf sprint at BHP last June 30 vs. straight maidens. He wasn’t seen again until April 12 when he returned at this level on this course, with Bejarano aboard and ran on well to be a solid 2nd. There’s not another layoff, no further drop and Bejarano stays put in a race where it appears he had options. -Michael Hammersly
