Live LongshotHARNESS MENTALITY (#2, 8-1) returns to the turf after being rained off scheduled downhill event; his lone turf try in prior, was maiden breaker in subsequent key race. - Chuck Kuehhas
Spot PlaySHEER TALENT (#9, 7-2) made a strong run to grab the lead in midstretch vs. $25K N2L foes at this trip on this course Feb. 21 but couldn’t sustain his run and faded to 4th. Still, that was a most encouraging effort and not only did Glatt see fit to claim him (6 for last 19, 32%, off a claim) but he brings him back without a tag attached and goes to his main man Bejarano. Oh, and a snappy :35.80 work here March 5 says he’s feeling good. -Michael Hammersly

Las Flores Stakes by Byron KingJUDY THE BEAUTY, on the board in every one of her 13 starts, ran bravely when last seen on this track in the Breeder’s Cup Filly and Mare Sprint Nov. 2, finishing second to champion Groupie Doll. ‘Doll ran past her on the turn, which would have been enough to discourage most horses, but she kept fighting and was gradually cutting into the winner’s lead at the wire to be second, beaten a half-length. She also won the Grade 2 TCA at Keeneland in 2013, and is Grade 1-placed in each of the last three years; out of action since the Breeders’ Cup but training swiftly at Gulfstream for her return. HEIR KITTY disappointed somewhat with a fourth in the Santa Anita after winning the La Brea, but could easily bounce back with another quality effort; fitness advantage over ‘JUDY. MUNNINGS SISTER is the speed of the race and will dare these to catch; likely not in the same class as the top two but capable of lasting for a piece. As for the others, WARM BREEZE comes off a pair of wins at Fair Grounds, but her record away from New Orleans isn’t nearly as good. And KINZ FUNKY MONKEY is a two other-than eligible runner that seems in here due to the short field. She has never raced on dirt and the presence of the speedy MUNNINGS SISTER makes this frontrunner’s task difficult.

Vulnerable FavoriteSWISS PEAK (#5, 5-2) may deserve favoritism off that nice 3rd here Feb. 7 at this level. That was her first start in nearly 21 months so that was quite encouraging. That being said, the Beyer came back awfully light (47) and she’ll certainly need to take a step forward if she’s to beat even this suspect bunch. And, her 2 works since don’t exactly get the pulse racing. -Michael Hammersly
