Spot PlayPRACTICAL (#4, 9-5) returns from a layoff with a solid work pattern for the 25-percent trainer-jockey combo of Mike Pender and Rafael Bejarano. This is the maiden’s first time in a maiden-claimer. -Brad Free PRACTICAL (#5, 9-5) hasn’t been seen since DMR but the colt returns with the most important drop in the game (straight maiden to maiden claiming) for a trainer (Pender) who’s shown he can fire off the bench. The recent works, over this track, are quite smart and it’s no small matter that leading rider Bejarano takes the call, particularly as he and Pender are 31% together the past 14-plus months. -Michael Hammersly

Spot PlaySprint-bred EXCLUSIVE GIRL (#3, 6-1) looms an upset candidate shortening up after three successive routes. She will be outrun early and roll late, at a price. Wouldn’t take her at lower than her program odds, however. -Brad Free

Spot PlayThe fourth-place debut by BOSQUE ANGEL (#1, 3-1) was better than it looks on paper, and sets him up for a maiden-20 win. Trapped behind foes most of the race, he finished well and galloped out super. -Brad Free
