Vulnerable FavoriteNIKKI ALLYN (#5, 6-5) takes a significant drop in class, hence her status as the heavy ML favorite. That being said, there are hurdles, not the least of which is the short price. It’s first time on dirt today, and while she showed speed in her first 2 starts, both on turf and both vs. tougher, she hung around OK to be 4th in her debut (beaten 3 3/4 lengths) but hit the brakes hard in start No. 2 to finish 7th (beaten 12 3/4 lengths) so it’s not as if she comes here seemingly all that sharp. -Michael Hammersly

Spot PlayPLAY HARD TO GET (#4, 8-1) broke slowly in his turf route debut at Golden Gate May 17 but kept to his task nicely to pass a few rivals and end up fourth. He was no threat (beaten 8 1/4 lengths) at 47-1 but that was just his first outing. He can benefit from that run and he may enjoy this shorter trip. After all, he’s not only by Purim (turf Grade 1 winner and crack turf sire) but he’s also a full-brother to Undrafted (3 for 5 on turf including winning the Grade 3 Jaipur at Belmont a couple weekends ago). -Michael Hammersly
Spot PlayUNUSUAL TASTE (#5, 5-2) deserves to be a heavy favorite after a fast race last out going down the hill, but being a Cal-bred facing open company, some bettors may view him with skepticism – hence his 5-2 morning line. -Byron King
