Santa Anita: DRF Plus handicapping report for June 13, 2014

Spot PlayTIMELESS INDY (#4, 3-1) may be a timely claim by Baltas who not only does very well off the claim (20%) but who is having a stellar meet (28%). Yes, this 4yo son of A. P. Indy has just the one 3rd from 5 prior grass starts but his last couple indicates he’s a better horse now than he was then. He has the speed to take control of the race early and dictate tempo. And 3 very nice works since Baltas snatched him up for $50K (and note he brings him back in a spot where he can’t lose him via another claim) say he’s doing well. Pedigree-wise there’s no reason he shouldn’t handle turf – the A. P. Indys do very well on turf and his 3 sibs are Mythical Border (G2 SP on turf in England), Long Lashes (G3 SW on turf in England) and Darwin Award (turf winner). - Michael Hammersly

Spot PlayMARY CONTRARY (#3, 7-2) gets a favorable trainer switch off the claim to Jerry Hollendorfer; ran well two back to be second in a sprint and should appreciate being cut back from a route. - Byron King
Vulnerable FavoriteCHIPPETTE (#5, 2-1) may go favored off the big class drop (from $32K to $10K). Trouble is, they don’t give anything away out here so that big a drop is disconcerting. Also, this marks her first outing in almost 2 months and her only prior try over this track wasn’t very pretty (finished last of 7, albeit vs. those tougher $32K foes). She faces some professional gals here who fit well at the level. -Michael Hammersly
