Spot PlayARTEST (#1, 4-1) ran well last out in an allowance, scoring a nice victory in fast time when equipped with blinkers for the first time; also ran some fine turf sprints going shorter distance previously; the longer distance of turf sprints at Anita plays to his style. –Byron King

Spot PlayA RED TIE DAY (#9, 5-2) tries grass for the first time but there’s cause for optimism. First, he’s bred for it – sire Indygo Shiner was a G3 SW on turf and twice G2 SP on turf and is proving a fine turf sire. His damsire was a top-class turfer in Europe and this colt is also kin to turf winners Alydarla and Best Case Scenario and he’s shown talent on dirt and synthetic. He’s run into some very tough customers and handled himself well. Also, it’s most encouraging that Talamo, who rode a couple others in here in their most recent starts, stays with this guy. -Michael Hammersly

Vulnerable FavoriteCHASINTHEACES (#3, 5-2) was smashing whipping maidens here May 4 after 15 months on the bench as he drew off to win for fun and earned a big Beyer (93). That being said, it’s first time vs. winners today, and we’re talking about some very tough MULTIPLE winners who won’t quake in their shoes at the sight of that winning Beyer. He’s worked twice since, which is nice, but they weren’t exactly the often fast drills you see from his trainer Baffert. -Michael Hammersly
