Santa Anita: DRF Plus handicapping report for January 9, 2014

Spot PlayBROKER BRETT (#4, 4-1) looked super blasting maidens over this track Oct. 25. He then didn’t run badly at BHP at this level Nov. 11 and while no factor here Dec. 26 remember that outing came vs. much tougher (open $40K foes including some old stakes horses), on turf, and he blew the start to boot. He’s down in class and back to dirt, and those factors may be just what the Dr. ordered for him to bounce back to his prior good form. -Michael Hammersly

Spot PlayA promising fourth-place debut by PRINCESS GENEVIEVE (#6, 8-5) stamps her as a pick-six single on the stretch-out. Racing six furlongs in her debut, she was not asked for speed, dropped back saving ground, and finished with run. -Brad Free

Spot PlayAlthough program favorite CIRCULAR LOGIC can win, she is suspect. First-time starter UNIQUE SUANCES (#7, 3-1) debuts for trainer Darrell Vienna. The past five years, Vienna is 5-for-21 with maiden-claiming first-timers. -Brad Free
Vulnerable FavoriteCIRCULAR LOGIC (#4, 5-2) flashed talent here last March. Trouble is, she hasn’t been seen since so she must deal with a lengthy layoff. Yes, trainer Mitchell is strong off the bench but it’s not as if this gal comes here with any significant edge in terms of speed or Beyers. -Michael Hammersly
