Race 3

Spot Play

Not sure if she is good enough for this allowance, but ASCRIPTION (#5, 10-1) was a mile best last time vs. claimers. Shuffled to last on the far turn, she finished well and missed by a head. Big rider change (Mario Gutierrez off). -Brad Free

Race 5

Spot Play

MR LEMON TREE (#8, 4-1) has run more than a few duds to be sure, but if you focus JUST on the surface in question here (grass) then things look much brighter. After all, he was a fine 2nd in 2 of his 3 grass starts and in the other where he ran poorly he was well back from the start and never really had a chance. He comes off a poor dirt route, yes, but again, that’s not his game. He’s back to turf and sprinting and it’s not only no small matter that leading rider Bejarano takes the call but this guy gets a crack at a number of suspect rivals.-Michael Hammersly

Golden Gate shipper GOSPEL MUSIC (#4, 5-2) can win this California-bred maiden race. Sold privately since his third-place debut on synthetic, he has turf potential in his pedigree and speed for a forwardly placed trip. -Brad Free

Race 6

Vulnerable Favorite

NO TRICKS FOR JACK (#1, 5-2) may merit favorite’s status with the class drop. After all, she did run 3rd for $16,000 here Dec. 29, when Carava saw fit to claim her. That being said, she wasn’t really a threat in the lane that day (beaten 4 1/2 lengths) and that was routing, too. While he brought her back against starter allowance foes here Jan. 18 she was no threat that day either (5th). So yes, she’s down in class and that may help but it’s also worth noting all 7 wins have come on synthetic (6) and turf (1) and that she has just one 2nd from 6 dirt tries.-Michael Hammersly

Race 7

Spot Play

Speedster KINZ FUNKY MONKEY (#9, 7-2) can wire this good field of N2X filly-mare turf sprinters. She set a fast pace last time and got collared. With the rails at 30 feet, color her gone. -Brad Free
