Vulnerable FavoriteEBLOUISSANTE (#3, 4-5) has shown talent, no doubt, winning her first 2 starts in impressive fashion. But much of her fame is due to family – she’s sister to Horse of the Year and SoCal legend Zenyatta. Yes, she’s shown ability but her top Beyer (88) hardly overwhelms these, she hasn’t run since throwing a fit and finishing a dull 6th in the Grade 3 Shuvee at SAR last July 20 and stylewise she’s likely going to be giving some nice gals a headstart and first run. All that and you’re likely going to get just 3-5 or so. Again, while she has some big family connections, to paraphrase Sen. Benson, “I knew Zenyatta and you’re no Zenyatta (at least not yet).” -Michael Hammersly

Spot PlayLast-out maiden winner BOSS OF ME (#6, 5-2) may be lone speed in this N2L turf-route claimer. Sharp form, turf rails 30 feet, long gone as a “low-odds overlay.” -Brad Free Spot PlayTROUBLE X TWO (#11, 8-1) Wide-open key to the early multi’s has a number of interesting options, including this guy, who suddenly surged to a life-high last-out Beyer when moving back to the synth. Actually, each of those last two efforts has been heady, and surely Gryder will be riding aggressively to overcome that outer post. Even on this raise, this gelding is eligible to outrun his overlaid odds. – Marty McGee

Spot PlayCLEARLY CONFUSED (#1, 7-2) Fans have been enamored with her, although that’s been at the N2L level, and now she steps up in class with her confidence enhanced off that last-out triumph. Similar sort of trip/ride could land her squarely in the hunt after Holiday N Newport goes sailing off; Joe T. really in a groove right now. – Marty McGee

Spot PlayANITA MARIE (#8, 9-2) whipped $16K foes on BHP’s synthetic track Nov. 10 and whipped $16K foes again on dirt here Jan. 11 (was claimed back that day, too, by Knapp). In between those 2 came a not-so-hot 6th routing on turf at this ($25K) level at BHP Dec. 8. However, she’s won on turf so she’s no fish out of water moving to turf today. What may be more the key is that run came routing at this level. While she can route she may simply be better sprinting, which is the game she gets here even with the surface switch. Oh, and Bejarano has been aboard her just twice, coincidentally it for was those 2 aforementioned easy wins. -Michael Hammersly

Strong PlayHigh-profile BAYERN and TAP IT RICH are likely to be over-bet, while BROTHER SOLDIER (#3, 5-1) could be overlooked. He set fast fractions on turf last time, and has improved as the distances have increased. If he handles dirt, he could upset. -Brad Free
