Race 2 Hobbits Hero Can't ignore the sharp improvement he showed in his turf debut in his latest start and the third-place finisher from that race returned to win next out here on 4/13 going 6f vs. starter alw. rivals with a 78 Beyer; he is stretching out in distance for this, but have to respect his chances off his latest effort.   Fort Wagner He ran well the first time he raced over turf just two starts ago, and perhaps the sprint distance didn't agree with him in his latest outing; he figures to be involved in the running early on and his dam won 2 of 10 turf starts for 76k.   Al Baz (GB) His form racing overseas appears to be on the so-so side, but he is getting Lasix for the first time, and he has pedigree appeal; he's a 1/2 to multiple G1 winner Samitar (6-20, $1.1 million, including 3 of 10 North American turf starts for 489k).   Go Black Tie Half-brother to stakes placed Affair Dabbler (3-17, 113k over turf) has been a consistent performer, but he is going to need to be ready to take his game to another level to beat this field in his first attempt against winners; looking toward others.   Papa's Paisley Sire wins with approximately 9% of his turf starters and dam was unraced; this gelding is a 1/2 to Spelling Test (2-22, 46k, including 1 of 17 turf starts for 36k); he was in good form when last seen but he'll have to show more in his first turf start to beat this bunch.   Photography (IRE) One of two signed on in here for the Belvoir barn and it might be worth noting the presence of Bejarano aboard this one; however, it would have been nice to have seen him show more in his first start in America, and it isn't like he attracted all that much wagering support.   Prince of Paris Sire has won with 5 of 11 (45%) of his turf starters, including 2 of 5 starters trying turf for the first time; dam won 2 of 15 starts for 15k, including 0-for-4 over turf; this colt is a 1/2 to Determined Diva (1-3, 22k over turf); his recent form has been improved and he has turf in his pedigree. - Brian Pochman Race 3 A Red Tie Day Moves to the fence for the stretchout in his third start of the season; colt argued solid splits in that last sprint spin so expect he'll be able to work out a decent trip from here; may not have the upside of some of these, but his pedigree does suggest he deserves another crack going long; consider.   Rprettyboyfloyd Hood comes off after they aimed him a bit high last time and though he didn't offer much it was no shame being defeated just over 10 lengths by this weekend's Kentucky Derby favorite; he just missed at short prices in each of his last 2 route spins against non-winners and looks to fit pretty well in this heat; Bejarano sticks next door and that's a concern, but maybe that just serves to improve the price; main danger.   Yard Line Earned big numbers in defeat in each of his 2 well spaced sprint starts and now he'll try a route of ground; colt was quite good forcing the pace after a rough beginning first time over this footing as he still had plenty to offer late; interim drills are solid and Bejarano sticks with him; he's the one they'll have to beat.   Missing Groom Cal bred offered little on the surface switch last time and now he'll try routing; barn does stretch them out well and this guy's been working like he has more to offer; SP dam did win twice routing on the main track and this guy's sire was a G1 SW going long but he does have some improving to do in a tough field.   Hold Everything Gelding brings speed to the table and has been working pretty well for his return from 4 months on the shelf; his stamina has been an issue so would have preferred to see him working a little longer and more slowly but the Baffert barn does hit at a nice clip with its returnees; limiting his use to underneath in exotics.   Mister Wonka His sprint debut try wasn't terrible though he proved little match for the runner up who returns in this spot as well; G1 SW dam took the Del Mar Debutante as a juvenile but failed to hit the board in her lone route spin but she did drop a couple of route winners including G1 SP, G2 SW and 1.1 million earner Papa Clem so maybe this guy moves forward with the added trip; working well for a barn that hits at a nice clip with runners who have had a race.   Cognoscente Showed some early interest when stretched out at 93-1 in his second career start but had little for the drive; he is kin to a route winner as well as G2 SP router and 125K earner Uptowncharlybrown; maybe he improves second time going long but he's got his work cut out for him of what he's done thus far.   J Serino Outside drawn colt didn't do much in either of his starts and was no factor behind one of these while sprinting last time; it took a while to get this 485K in training purchase to the races and he did run into next out winners in his debut, but it's just tough to get excited about his chances while stretching out off 2 fades at shorter trips. - Steve Grabowski Race 4 Clenor (IRE) Multiple stakes winner was impressive in her first three starts in America and it wouldn't be any surprise if she was ready to show us more in her first start as a 3-year-old; maybe there's something to be said for Bejarano being aboard another in here, and maybe she's looking for more distance the next time around, but have to label her a top contender regardless.   Sushi Empire She ran well when turned back to a sprint distance in her latest outing while splitting a couple of today's rivals, and this stakes winning miss commands her share of respect against these; she needs to see the early pace heat up a little bit to have her best chance, but she isn't out of the question.   On the Backstreets Like the idea of this miss being turned back in distance and her two starts sprinting down the hill have been sharp winning performances; she's by a strong turf sire and her dam won 2 of 10 turf starts for 48k; obvious threat.   La Sorella She finds a tough spot to meet up with winners for the first time, but like what she's shown in her first three starts, and she's eligible to still have more to show us; Talamo has won with 6 of 9 (66%) mounts for this barn in 2014.   Saintly Joan She beat a couple of today's rivals when surprising a field in her latest start, but this event is a tougher test for her, and it might be worth noting the presence of Baze aboard Clenor; prefer to limit this stakes placed miss to a spot underneath in the exotics.   Belle of the Fleet She ran very well in her first two starts as a 2-year-old over the synthetic surface at Del Mar and it was nice to see the effort she showed up with in her turf debut in her latest outing; half-sister to Julio's Gold (5-13, 102k, including 2 of 3 turf starts for 43k) brings a high degree of early speed with her. - Brian Pochman Race 5 Lemon de Oro Long layoff for her 1st dirt start while going from 2-year-old races to facing older rivals today; beat the 2-back runner-up finisher who posted a 79 Beyer speed figure in a next-out GP-MSW win; the trainer won 2 races from April 25-27 with fresh runners so expect her to come out winging from the gate; Twelve Folds seems to own the bst gate speed but her game is to race on the lead which likely helps the closers.   Clearly Confused Her off-the-pace style fits well in a field top heavy with gate speed; was claimed off a best-last-race Beyer winning from off the pace at longer; leaves 3 high-win percentage win trainer and into a barn 1-for-12 since 2013 racing 1st off the claim; last looks better since the show finisher Beyered 76 in a next-out SA-32K-claiming win.   Twelve Folds If on her best game would be tough to catch; January, 2012, was her field-best Beyer speed figure winning on the lead in an SA-5.5F-MSW- dirt event; was claimed off a best-last-race Beyer winning on the lead over the track; hard to imrprove off a 22%-win trainer but dangerous when she makes the frontend.   Appealing Resume 8 weeks since claimed off a solid effort; win rider in 2014 opts for Clearly Confused for this; the winner from last Beyered 88 in a next-out SA-alw. win; she beat the 2-back runner-up who scored next out in a 20K claimer with a 77 speed figure; won right off the bench in October but with Bejarano.   Courageous Call Sharp-gate speed but has Twelve Folds to fend off early then the closers late; from a Beyer perspective she's been a new-and-improved runner since arriving in the Ellis barn; she showed potential at MTH to start career but has picked up her game over the track; will she be able to stalk Twelve Folds and run past her in deep stretch while facing winners for the 1st time?   Miss Radiance Last dirt win at much longer she comes off the bench noting her June win was following a much-shorter layoff; big-closing kick fits well in a field top heavy with gate speed; she owns her best Beyer at 6F on SA dirt; helps that April 25-27 on SA dirt closer's fared well in dirt sprints.   D'ya Knowwhatimean Hasn't won off the January 50K claim yet but has certainly raced well in defeat while latest represents a career-best Beyer speed figure at today's distance over the track; takes on older rivals for this which means her lightest-weight assignnment ever. - Art Gropper Race 6 Stepinmoon Jammed up from rail position last time out, she must avoid such a similar trap here; did flashed improved speed in that comeback race but still cannot be given the top vote here because of the tricky slot; pass until further notice.   Honky Tonk Diva No enthusiasm shown thus far regardless of the distance involved; did not have a smooth trip in the latest run yet there is no logical reason for a sudden turnaround; latest workouts are nothing special.   Swiss Heart A fine clear-cut second in her latest venture; might be able to relax a bit more in the early stages if geared back behind the pacesetters who break to her outside; needs perfect touch by Maldonado in order to secure another exacta finish.   Roman Wild Favored first time out, she lost momentum at the start and never recovered; her sire won a G1 stakes and 1.22 million while the dam won 1 of 14 and 53K; there are no winning siblings to mention; worth some follow-up.   Quay Factor Sharp work tab for this beginner, daughter of G1 victor Circular Quay who captured 1.5 million (his offspring have scored in 5 of 59 debuts); the dam involved won 2 of 30 and 29K; there are no winning sibs to highlight.   Hanna No Sir Very fine try in early January when holding on strong until the final yards; her sire won multiple G1s and 845K; the dam never competed; among the winning siblings is 169K earner Rate of Exchange; dangerous despite respite.   Lady Regina Cooked in a prolonged pace war in her maiden voyage, she must try to clear the field in opening strides today; her sire won the Breeders' Cup Sprint and 2.69 million overall; the dam won 3 of 20 and 154K; sib to 145K earner One Man to Beat.   Euroclydon In her first start for a tag, she was a game second when rallying on a wide path; draws a very favorable post today and would certainly benefit if a duel develops to her inside; Bejarano has been aboard before.   Betty Bing Bing Course, class and distance experience is in her favor and perhaps moving off the fence today will help as well; still will have to improve significantly in order to turn the tables on Swiss Heart who clearly beat her in their March match-up. - Jim Kachulis Race 8 Marcyjane She's making her first start since November and she's going to need to show up with a top try to get the better of this field, but it's encouraging to see that she has run well when fresh in the past; third-place finisher from latest won next out at SA on 1/1 going 1m over turf vs. 40-35k claimers with an 85 Beyer.   Big Break Limited available data on sire with regard to his turf starters, and he won 2 of 9 starts for 70k, including 0-for-2 over turf during his racing career; dam won once from six starts for 27k, and she didn't make a turf start; turf is a question, but she rolled in her career debut and her connections thought enough of her to try a stakes at second asking.   Mom Nana Petrie She's been in good form lately and she's eligble to be ready for a top try after earning a minor stakes placing in her first start back from a layoff in her latest outing; this is a barn that can get hot at a moments notice and Baze is a go-to rider for them.   Sweet Red Cat She's G3 stakes placed racing over this turf course, and even though her two most recent races haven't been her best, maybe she'll be ready to get back on top of her game while making her third start back from a layoff and getting a rider switch to Maldonado; Maldonado has won with 6 of 13 (46%) mounts for this barn in 2014.   Diaminda (IRE) A little concerned about the added distance for her when seeing what she did at today's distance racing overseas, but her form sprinting over turf has been solid, and that includes a couple of starts in America; not willing to count her out of it, but others entice more.   Lilbourne Eliza (IRE) She's been a consistent performer in her starts over turf at today's distance and her best effort places her squarely in the mix versus these; she appears to be well meant while getting a rider switch to Bejarano.   Hey Pretty Girl Her two starts in the maiden ranks against claiming competition were solid efforts, but this has to be considered a difficult spot for her to be meeting up with winners for the first time; she looks like more of an outsider.   Putahexonher She produce a sharp winning performance in her first start routing over turf in her latest outing against seven rivals, but that was against 25-22.5k N2L claimers, and this group will be much tougher on her; leaning toward others.   Warren's Flasher Her overall turf form has been solid but don't like to see that she hasn't been at her best in her recent starts and she will need to find her way back to one of her better performances in order to prove to be the one in this spot.   Somethingabouther Multiple stakes placed veteran is capable of dialing up a competitive performance against competition of this caliber, but she has to be approached with some caution when seeing that she's won just once from 19 starts, including 0-for-12 going back through 2013. - Brian Pochman Race 9 Goyan Gelding goes from one capable barn to another and he has the speed to flee the rail; like the improved energy in the drill last Saturday and he got a boost when the place horse in last graduated here in a maiden $30K claimer with a 64 Beyer last Friday; runner has lost ground in the lane in every race except his debut.   Neurosurgeon Overmatched in the return, runner improved first time for a tag and he has more speed than he just flashed; the extended layoff is a genuine concern though; another slice?   Thunders Echo Beaten single digits just once in his career; there are a least a couple of minor winners in the family; must find a way to turn the tables on Fox Trot among others.   Coast Guard Patrol Racer is more realistically placed here as blinks added to the equation; 1 for 6 dam did win at 2, earned nearly $45K; one sibling lost 12 times, the other lost only start; if he can run at all, he figures to show it today.   Financial District Mirror races on grass, would expect him in the picture late if at all; 2 for 8 dam banked $50K; lone half sister Bleeker Street took 11 of 11, banked about 16 grand; has some things to iron out.   Code of Pleasure Colt wanted no part of the route game in last; troubled early in last pair and the place horse 3/6 graduated next out in a state-bred maiden $40K claimer, then was 2nd beaten a length in a $25K claimer; the hotter the pace the better for this racer.   Jump the Wall Debuting at 7 is not the best scenario and he can only improve after seeing all the heels; lone half sister lost 17 times; would tread lightly here.   Midnight Mayhem Decent debut considering he walked out of the gate; stakes placed 11 for 29 dam banked nearly $200K; one of 3 siblings won and that full sister was just one of 20; Bejarano enticed, this is a first-time gelding, interesting.   Bluegrass Fox Trot Far back in both sprints, runner took good action after the second start of the year but last pair were regressions; he was forced to steady in last; respect connections but this runner must hustle.   Yodeling Honey Off dead last in educational debut; 2 for 12 dam earned nearly $60K; lone half bro No Ez Money took 1 of 2, earned over $12K, and the win came at this level with a 75 Beyer in March for this trainer; homebred has a right to improve.   Van Fraassen Troubled the other time at this demanding distance, 2nd time for sale for this $300K purchase; key off the Beyer in the April finale and he must be left in the mix.   Puerto Williams After 15 defeats it s hard to see an upside; his best race arguably was at this trip when beaten three quarters last fall here; there are several winners in the family, but none were monsters; fit enough to at least drill a couple of times since the last start but with his style, he's just not my kind of play. - Brian Mulligan
