Race 2 Tiz Dynamic He was sharp in a near-miss performance over this turf course three starts ago and he's out of a multiple stakes winning dam who won 7 of 27 starts for 368k, including 3 of 14 turf starts for 112k; he projects to sit a comfortable trip right behind the early speed of Segway.   Jules Journey He can put together a sharp performance over turf on his best day and he's been at his best racing over this turf course; multiple stakes placed veteran can't be ignored in the cozy but competitive gathering.   Dreamy Kid Grade 2 winner hasn't regained the form that he displayed prior to needing to take all of 2012 off, but still feel that he can run with these; third-place finisher from latest won next out at GG on 4/26 going 1m over turf in a G3 with a 92 Beyer.   Segway This gelding has a strong turf pedigree and he looks like he can prove to be the dominant early speed in here; multiple graded stakes winner has to be viewed as being a gate-to-finish threat, and Stevens has won with 4 of 12 (33%) mounts for this barn in 2014.   Unusual Heatwave He carries multiple stakes winning credentials with him, but you have to go back to 2012 to find the last time he was on top of his game, and it would have been nice to have seen him show a little bit more in his first start back from a layoff in his latest outing.   Willyconker (IRE) Grade 1 winner will appreciate getting back over turf for this and not viewing the 62.5k price tag as a negative when seeing what he did when sent out with a 40k tag attached two starts ago; 10-time winner commands a good deal of respect against these. - Brian Pochman Race 3 Circle the Moon Drops in for a straight tag while stretching back out off the brief freshening; his 2 recent sprint tries weren't much and he's yet to win on dirt, but he has been working well here for his return and may be able to sit a decent trip from this draw.   Big Kick Returns to claimers after failing to fire in an allowance spot last month; he used his speed to beat a cheaper bunch from the inside draw 2 starts back at the trip and he did work well here last weekend so maybe they look to send him hard here, too, but there is other speed in here and that could pose him some trouble late; prefer others on the win end.   Timeless Indy Nearly got the nod while making all the pace in a 5 runner gathering first off this outfit's claim last time; he'll tackle a better bunch as well as the guy who beat him last out and doesn't figure to have such an easy time being prominent in this one.   Valley Cat Steps up for his first off the claim by an outfit that excels with this type; 7 year old ran down a loose running rival who returns in this spot as well and he's returned to work as if the try took very little out of him; with Bejarano staying put this late runner looms a huge threat right back.   Got Even Speedy gelding stretches out while dropping in for a tag in this spot; expect he'll again be prominent from the bell and he's earned some solid numbers in each of his last 2 route spins, but note that it's been quite a long time since he's seen the winner's circle.   Toledo Eddie Stretches out off a couple of weak recent sprint tries at the N1X level; he should be able to sit just off the pacesetters early on the drop to claimers here but don't know that he's going to handle the added trip; he does own a solid local slate.   Planet Sunshine Outside drawn gelding returns from 4 months on the bench to make his first start off the claim by an outfit that hasn't done much with this type of late; he gutted it out near the front end when last sighted here and has been working long of late for his return so he shouldn't be short; 4 for 4 ITM over the local main track, he looks to be a legitimate repeat threat in this spot. - Steve Grabowski Race 4 Navarre (GB) Main issue is whether he's better on turf or synthetic but remains on grass in a seemingly good spot 2nd off the bench whie cutting back in distance; figures to chase Gameboy Luke from the gate then hopes to wear him down in deep stretch.   Gameboy Luke Sire is 1-for-12 with 1st-turf starters; is out of an unraced dam who's only other foal to race is 1-for-3 turfer Hipocrisy (13K); his 2-back Beyer speed figure is a field-best number; projects to race loose on the lead and at 6.5F on SA grass being close to the front is a winning profile; the pick.   Lassie's Reward Sire is 5-for-45 with 1st-turf starters; is out of a 1-for-6 grass dam (26K); 2 foals to race on grass are 0-for-2 combined; the 4th and 7th-place finishers from last Beyered 81-66 in next-out BHP-MSW and 50K-maiden-claiming wins.   Letaba 4-year-old 1ster from a 27%-winning debut trainer; sire is 4-for-42 with 1st-turf starters; 27-for-118 with debut runners; is out of a 5-for-32 dam (166K) who did not compete on grass; she produced 2 winners from 2 other foals to race including stakes-placed Hour Bay (3-for-23, 139K) who went 4-0-0-0 on grass.   Green Tag (IRE) Exits a best-last race Beyer but the speed figure regressed 2nd time in the USA: his biggest knock is racing too far back early as all of the SA-6.5F turf winners since April 25 raced on the lead or from just off the pace; needs a pace metldown to graduate.   Distinct Asset Sire is 7-for-136 with 1st-turf starters; 31-for-263 with debut runners; is out of an unraced dam who produced 7 winners from 7 other foals to race including 2 turf winners including 1-for-3 grasser Scandaliza (11K).   Distinctive B Sire is 7-for-136 with 1st-turf starters; is out of an unraced dam; her only other foal to race is 0-for-1 grasser Talent N Passion; ran to the 53-1 debut odds with no real signs about turf ability on her form; trainer won 2 Mile-SA grass races May 1-3 with runners freshened 30 days or more but he is back with just 3 weeks between races for this; others appeal more.   Red Globe Off the bench to test his shortest-distance test ever; deep closer faced the winner from last who repeated in an SA-starter allowance with an 81 Beyer; the 2-back winner and runner-up Beyered 78-75 in next-out GG-MSW and TUP alw. wins; 1st time in a maiden claimer from MSW is known as the biggest-class drop in racing angle; main issue for any late runner here is a speed-favoring turf course. - Art Gropper Race 5 Silectico Worked sharply for another crack at the level after again fading at a shorter trip last time; he picks up some weight with the switch to a journeyman pilot and looks to have his work cut out for him with the move to the fence here; passing.   Time for a J Tries older for the first time while returning from time off following his off the board debut run at Del Mar last summer; he did show some early interest in that one and he will move a gate off the fence for this one; he worked well from the local gate last week and his dam was a 2 time sprint winner, but the barn hasn't had any recent luck with its comebackers.   Voluntary Fresh gelding tries older after fading from a stalking spot last time; his effort 2 back on dirt was decent and he's been working ok of late at Los Al for his return; he's kin to 4 winners including 3 who banked 6 figures; maybe for a share.   Black Magic Man Six year old makes just his third career start after 2 well spaced tries; he's yet to beat a runner to the wire and his works for his first on dirt aren't much at all; tough to make much of a case for him off what he's done thus far.   Cut to Run Tries dirt for the initial time after a couple of spins down the hillside course; his recent dirt works aren't much and his lone sib to race is a limited route winner; maybe he finds this bunch softer and he does get a switch to a solid journeyman pilot.   Ice Cream Truck Runner up in 4 straight and 5 of his last 6 owns a figure edge over these and off his last should appreciate the half panel cut back; gelding has had plenty of chances and that's always a concern in the maiden ranks, but note he hasn't been favored in any of his starts this season; they'll have him to beat.   Higher Mandate Gelding makes his first start of the year for an outfit that boasts some recent luck with its returnees; barn's second runner in here ran ok on dirt last year and though the drills aren't quick, he has been working regularly for his return; consider.   Soul Saver He's another who has had plenty of chances but he hasn't been as good as the guy drawn to his immediate inside here; he did return to work well last weekend, but given his off the pace style it looks as if his best shot is for a minor slice of this one.   Doctor McEachnie Sire is 6 for 37 with his newcomers and the unraced dam's lone foal to race was a 5 time winner (4 sprints); don't know much about the barn, but this guy's recent gate drill does indicate he has a little bit of lick and he catches a rather soft bunch including a likely heavy chalk who usually looks for someone to beat him. - Steve Grabowski Race 7 Ferocious Tonito M is an inviting target for this stalker who may offer the best gate speed in this event if that one doesn't fire; handled winners without any problems in last now graduates into graded-stakes company quite a class leap; defeated the 2-back runner-up finisher who posted a 92 Beyer speed figure in a next-out SA-MSW win; contender.   Tonito M. The Hall of Fame trainer is good at a lot of things but since 2013 is 0-for-3 with 1st-time Imports; Bejarano here and the 6-for-7 record leads him into graded-stakes company giving 5 pounds to each rival but Kobe's Back; working like he's ready to fire big from the gate then hopes to hang on late; has uncoupled stablemate Puppy Manners going here who will be rallying; is the one to catch and beat.   Kobe's Back The good news is in the two-7F dirt races at SA May 2 and 4 deep closers like him won; owns the numbers' edge posting a best-last-race Beyer while 3-back is a field-best number posted in his only SA dirt start; was even farther back than usual in the early stages of last when hitting the gate as the beaten-betting favorite in a key race; he defeated the 7th and 8th-place finisher; they Beyered 94-90 in next-out BEL-98K and AQU-100K stakes wins; the pick.   Chelios We know he has 22 and 1 gate speed but changed styles in last when defeated by Ferocious while he gets a negative-5-pound weight swing off latest deicison; gets-win rider Stevens back and he sent him right to the front 2 back; figures to stalk Tonito M and Ferocious during the early stages today; overall have him ranked a notch beow the top contenders.   Twenty Percent Eye-catching debut win when showing no gate speed; solid worktab on display for this while the 7F winners one week ago on SA dirt were deep closers like him; asking a lot to go right from MSW into graded stakes company especially off a freshening; the barn from May1-4 at SA scored with 2 fresh-turf runners and a debut winner; will need a Beyer boost to land a share but see a lot of upside.   Puppy Manners What a time to attempt 1st time on dirt facing graded-stakes rivals while exiting his lowest Beyer since October; the barn also has the speedy Tonito M going here uncoupled to set a hot pace; late runner cuts back to 7F he figures to be lingering near the back of the pack then make one run.   Top Fortitude Trying to find a way to make a case for him off the more than 17-length loss to Ferocious; it was his 1st ever dirt race and seemed a lot more at home racing on an all-weather strip for his debut; should improve 2nd time off the bench but overal others appeal more. - Art Gropper Race 8 Sweet Boss A case can be made for her being a little disappointing since a sparkling career debut, but she's still lightly raced, and this daughter of top turf sire Street Boss deserves another chance to see what she can do racing on grass; viewing the rider switch to Smith as a positive indicator.   Adriatic Skye This miss has a little bit of turf in her pedigree but she is going to need to be ready to deliver the sharpest performance of her career in her third turf attempt if she's to see her number posted on top after this one is run.   Sunset Skies Sire wins with approximately 13% of his turf starters and dam won 2 of 5 starts for 80k, including 0-for-1 over turf; she deserves credit for stepping up with a winning performance in her first start wearing blinkers at second asking, but this is a tough spot for her to meet winners for the first time.   Vegas Rules She looks like she's on top of her game as she gets ready to make her third start of 2014 and a repeat of her latest effort can help her land a solid share of the prize in this spot; looking in another direction for the top spot though.   Copperopolis Lightly raced 5-year-old has some early speed to throw at these and she might not mind getting another chance to see what she can do racing over turf; she's a 1/2 to multiple stakes winner Clubay (8-46, 467k, including 5 of 29 turf starts for 311k) and stakes placed Gavro (2-11, 157k over turf).   Chati's On Top Sire wins with approximately 14% of his turf starters and dam won 5 of 17 starts for 111k, including 2 of 8 turf starts for 53k; winner from latest won next out here on 4/26 going 1 1/16m in a 250k stakes with an 82 Beyer.   Queen of the Hill Can't ignore the improvement in her recent form and she's a 1/2 to stakes placed Stonington (10-35, 393k, including 2 of 7 turf starts for 72k) and stakes winner Gemstone Rush (6-21, 183k, including 2 of 12 turf starts for 42k).   Yes She's Unusual Like to see what she did the last time she was seen racing over turf and that was sprinting down the hill; she's out of a stakes winning dam who won 5 of 24 starts for 332k, including 4 of 22 turf starts for 319k; must respect. - Brian Pochman Race 9 Southern Sunshine Tough beat in the second start, connections thought enough of her to try the stakes; like the spacing of the San Luis Rey drills but she may have to be hard used to flee the fence; connections would love to see her mature like top sibling Den's Legacy, who took a Grade 3 and earned nearly $500K; not impossible task.   Dancinginthestreet Shorter trip could help; note she was nearly 5 clear in last and the show horse was by herself too; backers can point to several siblings that banked 6 figures including near $350K earner Free Brave; fits nicely with slight improvement.   Queen Kalyrra Giant's Causeway about 11% with firsters in an 680-horse sample; sire won juvenile debut by 7 and took a Group 1 at 2 as a turf monster; stakes winning 4 for 14 dam earned $85K; lone full sister lost 3 times; miss looks fit enough.   Reverchon Divine Park 11 for 51 with firsters; Grade 1 winning sire took 6 of 9, earned over $600K; dam took one sprint; both siblings won; they are a combined 3 for 36 and earned about $80K together; may want more ground.   Classy Ava Given time since clever debut and the opener came back okay; the show horse took a MSW here 9 days ago and the 5th finisher took a MSW at Hastings last Saturday; dam out of the money 3 times; both siblings won multiple times including Classy Coco, who took 2 stakes, banked nearly $190 going 3 for 14 career; should be right there when the smoke clears.   Seeking Bliss Walked out of the game as an ice cube on the board; one for 27 dam took a route; this is her first to race; hard to pull the trigger on this racer.   See Through Debut solid on the tricky hillside and like fact she has drilled farther than this race is carded; 1 for 10 dam earned nearly $25K; several multiple race winners in the family; top sibling Katrina's Prince took 5 for 30, earned over $100K; should be rolling hard late.   Wasted At Midnight She has been around the wire a couple of times, is due to punch it on in; miss exited the double live fray two back and the show horse in last graduated next out at this level, then was 5th beaten 5 in a $40K optional; all 3 siblings won; another slice?   Point Endurance Point Given about 9% with firsters in an 320-horse sample; sire ran 2nd in debut at 2, took 2 thirds of the Triple Crown; 21 for 72 dam won several stakes, earned nearly $250K; a full bro took only start here at this level with a 94 Beyer; top kin Private World took a couple of stakes, earned nearly $170K; homebred has trained forwardly.   Scatfish Scat Daddy about 14% with debuters in a 175-runner survey; sire took debut at 2, won multiple Grade 1s, earned over $1.3 million; dam lost 8 times; both siblings won; top earner Mandorla took 5 of 18, banked about $80K; could need experience.   Enchanted Fortune Filly could have sulked after the poor start but she still put her head down and was not disgraced; Grade 2 winning 8 for 22 dam banked nearly a million; both siblings won once, both earned over $70K; got a feeling we have not seen the best of this miss. - Brian Mulligan
