Race 2 Taste Like Candy She's done little wrong in her first two starts, including a fine runner-up finish behind the Baffert-trained Streaming in a G1 run when stretched out in distance at second asking; she has her share of appeal while getting back over dirt and turning back in distance.   Uzziel She was upset minded when getting the better of eight rivals to break her maiden at Golden Gate in her latest start, and even though she's facing some talented fillies in this spot, can't blame her connections for signing her on to make it a field of four while going after black type and $200,000.   Awesome Baby It's probably worth noting the presence of Garcia aboard the other Baffert-trained filly in here, but this miss was sharp when breaking her maiden in her career debut and perhaps the time off has done her some good; it certainly looks like she's been training well leading up to this.   Crushed Velvet Not only did she earn a strong Beyer Speed Figure in a winning performance in her career debut, but she overcame a bit of a slow start in doing it, and she was very impressive when showing another gear through the lane after a few rivals tried to gang up on her at the top of the stretch; third finisher from debut won next out here on 12/29 going 6f vs. MSW rivals with a 77 Beyer. Race 3 Moonshine Bay Upstate speedster draws the fence for his return to dirt after wiring cheaper at odds on at this trip; inside draw can help and he does get Stevens for his local debut, but he's gonna have to work pretty hard from the bell if he wants the top today and that could leave this 15 time winner vulnerable late.   Midnight Transfer Fresh 5 year old makes his first start in 8 months with some sharp recent local drills in tow; he's a 3 time winner over this footing, one of them coming in the quick maiden breaker at the trip and the pace in front of him should at least be honest; with some sharp return efforts in him have to think he'll return running; he's the one to hold off.   Color of Courage Returned from 16 months on the shelf with a sharp placing in the Hollywood stake 5 weeks ago and now the 7 year old will try dirt for the first time since his juvenile season; he's got some physical issues but he can be competitive with these when right and he's been working as if he'll have little problem handling the dirt in the afternoon; encouraging to see him return without a prolonged break here; consider.   Anillo Speedy gelding tired after arguing the pace in the synthetic stake last time and finished well behind the runner up who draws to his immediate inside here; he's been solid on the front end in the past, but he'll have the rail runner to contend with early in this one and and don't know that he's really good enough to step late with what some of these have to offer; pace factor but he'll have his work cut out for him thereafter.   Cyclometer Statebred cuts back in his return to dirt after getting beaten as the chalk against restricted stakes runners in his Hollywood finale; 6 year old has been pretty good on this footing in the past and his work on Opening Day suggests that he's raring to get back on the surface in the afternoon; from close range he looks to be a threat. Race 5 Rprettyboyfloyd Solid work tab on view for this firster, son of Bluegrass Cat who won a G1 and 1.76 million (his offspring have scored in 34 out of 265 debuts); the dam won 2 of 14 and 83K; among the winning siblings is 53K earner Stick to Your Guns.   Silent Shark Offspring of Medaglia d'Oro, a multiple G1 star who banked 5.75 million, have scored in 10 percent of their initial races; the dam went 4 for 20 earning 350K; among the winning sibs is 197K earner Chief Havoc.   Snuggley Bear Flashed much more early speed in the last run and the fractions along the way were sharp; minor cutback in distance can work in his favor and the latest half-mile drill was his best yet; looks like a legit exacta player once again.   Hold Everything Bet down to 2 to 1 in the last assignment, he was a clear-cut second after being tested in the early stages; trainer excels with the turnback angle and the colt should prove to be an immediate pace factor at the very least.   Bayern Firster hails from multiple G1 type Offlee Wild who captured 976K and whose progeny have won 11 percent of their first ventures; the dam did not compete; winning siblings include 89K earner Rush In.   Los Borrachos Off the board in his first appearance but he might have been compromised by the widest slot; his sire won multiple G2s and 728K while the dam won 4 of 16 and 115K; this is her only foal to make it to the races; upgraded in latest drill at five-eighths.   Z Z Thunder Exits the same swift race as Los Borrachos where neither made an impact; this colt's sire, a pure sprinter, won multiple G1s and 669K; the dam was unraced; among the winning sibs is 28K earner Lil Miss Jones; note sharp drill on 12/31.   El Nino Terrible Returns with a Lasix addition and an improving work tab; his sire is the prolific Malibu Moon who won 1 of 2 and 33K; the dam involved won 1 of 7 attempts and 25K; this is her only foal to make it to the starting gate.   Hoppertunity Steady intervals to the workout regimen for this beginner whose sire won a G1 level and 1.08 million; descendants of Any Given Saturday have won 10 percent of their debuts; the dam went 3 for 13 earning 114K; sib to multiple G1 type Executiveprivilege, winner of 999K. Race 6 Hey Pretty Girl Sire wins with approximately 14% of his turf starters and this is the first foal from a dam who was winless from four starts, including three turf starts; third-place finisher from debut won next out at SA on 12/28 going 6 1/2f vs. 30k MCL's with a 68 Beyer.   Nazareth Sire wins with approximately 13% of his first-time starters and with approximately 10% of his turf starters, and dam won 2 of 13 starts for 87k, including 2 of 9 turf starts for 74k; this barn isn't best known for first-out success, but a few of her workouts hint at ability.   La Sorella Sire wins with approximately 8% of his first-time starters and with approximately 12% of his turf starters, and stakes placed dam won 8 of 45 starts for 178k, including 0-for-2 over turf; this filly is a 1/2 to C J's Leelee (2-7, 172k, including 1 of 3 turf starts for 83k) and G1 winner Capo Bastone (3-11, 662k, including 0-for-1 over turf).   Divine Way Divine Park has been a poor influence as a turf sire but this filly did step up with an improved performance in her second turf attempt in her latest outing and that level of performance looks like it can play well in this spot.   Among the Stars She finished behind a couple of today's rivals in her turf debut in her latest outing and her connections will hope that the additoon of blinkers can help move her forward; leaning toward others.   Sheza Smoke Show She's shown fine gate speed and her turf debut in her latest start was an encouraging performance, especially when considering that she was locked down on the rail behind horses through much of the stretch; she's a very interesting option to consider in here.   Keezheekoni Her career debut can be viewed in a positive light, but there might be somethoing said for the presence of Talamo aboard another in here; regardless, she loses nothing with Bejarano taking over and an improved performance can't be ruled out at second asking.   Birthday Surprise She was basically outrun every step of the way in her career dbeut after going to post at over 30-1 and it looks like Espinoza may have opted to pilot the Shirreffs firster in here; she looks like more of an outsider.   Sweet Bliss Sire wins with approximately 8% of his first-time starters and with approximately 15% of his turf starters, and dam won once from seven starts for 42k, including 0-for-4 over turf; she has plenty of turf in her pedigree and this is a barn that can be live with a firster. Race 7 Appealing Tale Moves to dirt over which he broke his maiden around this time last year; he's got speed so the inside draw should help him secure a good spot early and this may be his preferred trip; with a sharp Hollywood drill in tow he looks to be a serious contender.   Northern Iowa Gets another new pilot after failing to factor in 2 Hollywood route tries since returning from the freshening; gelding hasn't seen the winner's circle in a while and don't know that the return to dirt is going to do much to move him up; siding with others on the win end.   Curly Top Fresh runner loses the barn's top pilot to the guy drawn to his immediate outside in here; he did work well at the Hollywood the other day for his 4 yar old debut and broke his maiden over the track around this time last year; rail runner beat him rather handily last time, but the price figures to be right to give him an exotics look.   Cat Burglar Lightly raced colt couldn't get to the front running winner over a speed favoring track when turned back to sprint in his first with winners here a couple of months back; his pilot returns for a Baffert barn that's gotten off to a great start at the stand and the stretch back out to 2 turns should play to his benefit; with sharp recent drills in tow they'll have him to beat.   Monument Gets Bejarano after working well on 2 different surfaces for his third start back from the break; he did take the Cal Cup Juvenile over the track as a baby but this Cal bred may not be at his best at this 2 turn trip anymore; others look better.   Educated Guess Undefeated gelding steps up to the allowance ranks while returning to the scene of his runaway debut score a couple of months back; they worked him long last week for the initial stretchout try and his pedigree suggests he should be able to handle the added trip.   Half Strike Fresh 5 year old steps up for his first start off the barn's claim after splitting his foes as the chalk in his first start since Del Mar; he did run big here last season and his local Christmas Eve drill suggests he may be set for an improved try and the price should be right; consider.   Surf N Ski Cal bred tries open company in his return to dirt; maybe he has a move forward in him third off the freshening, but he hasn't run fast enough on the main track to go with what these regularly run; recent drills are improved, but he looms a long price and looks to have his work cut out for him here. Race 8 Slim Shadey (GB) Try to catch me; he projects loose on an easy lead here which can be a dangerous scenario for any runner; favored in this event in 2013 but did not make the lead as Jeranimo ran by everyone; 97 days since the fade at longer; his best Beyer speed figure/lone win of 2013 was gate-to-wire at today's distance on SA turf; career-best speed figure was on SA green off a similar freshening; today marks his lightest-weight assignment since July, 2012; the pick.   Te Rapa 9 times in career he has raced in a straight claimers while today makes the stakes debut in a tough spot; receives a positive 4-pound weight swing off the more than 1-length loss vs. Dubai You X Y Z from last; is winless on SA grass tiring vs. Huntsville the last time racing here at today's distance; would be a shocker.   Artic North Cuts back to the win distance scoring on SA green 3-back; graduated at 9F in September on Del Mar turf defeating the runner-up and show finishers; they Beyered 84-78 in next-out SA-MSW wins; this is a better distance for him off latest-marathon defeats but must show more at this level.   Dubai You X Y Z Lone-SA turf loss was at 6.5F; he's won at 9F over today's SA course; lone stakes start of career was a fade at shorter behind Jeranimo who is here; exits back-to-back Beyer-career Tops hoping not to bounce off latest huge effort following more than 7 months away while back in just 29 days for this.   Fire With Fire Figures to press Slim Shadey for early command noting his last win was gate-to-wire; has not raced on grass since an August off-the-board finish at longer; his best Beyer of 2013 was on today's-SA turf at 3F longer than this but is 0-for-8 overall on this course; view as a pace presence for part.   Utopian Just his 2nd race since June, 2012; his SA-Mile return race was dull posting his lowest Beyer since January, '12; the 2-back winner repeated in a DMR-G1 with a 99 speed figure; another who is trying to pick up his 1st-SA grass win in a tough spot; last-win rider takes Huntsville here; will be taking a wait and see apporach.   Empty Headed Exits his lowest Beyer since August middle moving when racing at today's distance for the 1st time; makes his stakes debut in a tough spot; deep closer has not yet won at a distance this far during career; 3-time win rider Nakatani takes Slim Shadey for this; would be a shocker.   Black Spirit 1st-time Import catches a field of USA runners lacking a dominating presence; the main knock is the winless drought which dates back to September, 2012; the 3-back show finisher captured a 100K event next out; has not raced with this light of a weight assignment since his July, 2009, career debut.   Jeranimo Defending San Gabriel champion; field-best Beyer was posted October, 2011, at 1 Mile capturing an SA-G2 event; 9 weeks since his Breeders' Cup turf Sprint loss; his last victory was a G1 at today's distance on DMR green; reunites with the win rider for this; late runner faced the 2-back winner who captured the BC Classic next out with a 112 Beyer; main concern is if he will be ready for a top effort in his 8-year-old seasonal debut off the freshening but is the one to beat.   Huntsville 17-race losing skid heading into this; his last win picture was a September 2012, SA-1M allowance turfer when rallying from midpack; the 1-for-14 record on today's turf course and being here on a winless drought are drawbacks; have him ranked as an outsider for this.   Willyconker (IRE) Huge-post change after saving ground from the hedge draw in latest he breaks widest sure to lose ground today; is 1-for-5 off the May purchase; snuck through the claim box in last but the win was so impressive and his best Beyer since February that he shoots high again for this; the August-SAR turf winner repeated with a 109 Beyer in the G1-WO Mile. Race 9 Mahalo Arturo Colt must be respected on the drop alone; dam was 0 for 11; this is her first to race; he's trained steadily for this but may have to come out running to flee the fence; respect.   Prospector Alley Flower Alley about 7% with debuters in a 179-runner sample; sire was third in lone juvenile out, took the Travers, banked over $2.5 million; Grade 3 winning 7 for 28 dam earned nearly $500K; 1 of 3 siblings won; that runner took 3 of 24, banked $150K; realistically placed, he looks fit enough.   The Mad Hungarian Three solid local drills suggest he likes this surface; dam won at 2 but was one for 11; lone half bro to race took 2 of 5, banked nearly $75K; must be left in the mix.   Head South He's trained fast here as evidenced by the move on the 28th; 2 for 8 dam took a stakes at 2, earned nearly $140K; lone sibling took 7 of 39, banked nearly $100K; in light, will at least muddle the pace.   Awesome T Colt has the two races to draw from as Bejarano takes the reins; 1 for 7 dam earned $20K; all 5 siblings won; several won multiple times, none were monsters; looking elsewhere for a key top horse.   Warrensgoldenyears He took his fair share of action but saw all the heels; dam took one for 7; 2 of 3 siblings won, both earned less than $30K; he could get away on the tote as he is facing some familiar foes.   Mosso Runner has had his chances and he s been beaten in Pomona; 10/27 place horse graduated next out in a maiden $30K claimer, then ran out of the money; backers can point to the fact there is a near $90K earner in the tree; look for him late if at all.   Seeking Asylum Gelding is due for a trip after 2 eventful outs and maybe he hated the rail in last; 12th finisher in last took a maiden $50K claimer next out and the place horse beat MSW foes with a 74 Beyer; dam was unraced; this is her first to race; got a feeling we have not seen the best of this one.   Regal Randy Note the improved energy in the drill on the 27th; dam was unraced; lone half bro was 2nd in best result; could see him pushing the issue, not sure he ll be around at the end.   Sooo Major Been a bad actor at the gate in 3 of 4 outings; 1 for 9 dam earned over $20K; both siblings won, one banked over $50K; if he breaks with his field, it could be a whole new ballgame.   Benny's Babygirl Sired by G1 sprinter Benny the Bull who won 2.35 million; the dam won 1 of 4 and 14K; sib to 117K earner Gulf Cat; she had little chance in her unveiling last month when having to deal with an extreme outpost; watch for her down the road.
