Santa Anita carryover reaches $195,156

Steve Andersen|Dec 27, 2002

ARCADIA, Calif. - The upset by Debonair Joe ($55.60) in Thursday's Malibu Stakes has led to a pick six carryover of $195,156 for Friday's eight-race program.

The pick six on Friday covers the third through eighth races.

In the third race, Heat Haze, a recent English import trained by Bobby Frankel, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite. She is a half-sister to Banks Hill, the 2001 Eclipse Award winner as outstanding turf female.

The fourth race is run over a mile for maiden claimers. Must See T.V. is scratched. The eight-horse field is led by Beckham, who was second in a maiden claimer in his last start after a layoff.

There is a full field of 10 in the fifth race, a starter allowance over a mile. The competitive race includes Severo (7-2 on the morning line), Concussion (9-2) and Jake the Gamer and Encino Ump.

The sixth race over about 6 1-2 furlongs on the hillside turf course has been reduced to 12 runners following the scratch of Ladychatterly and Anima Mundi. E.C. Lady, second in a $70,000 claimer at Hollywood Park on Dec. 12, is the 7-2 morning-line favorite.

The $125,000 California Breeders' Champion Stakes is the feature race. Run over seven furlongs for 2-year-old fillies, the race drew 10. Princess V and Little Mis General are scratched.

Humorous Lady, the winner of the Astarita Stakes at Belmont Park in October, will attempt to get back to the winner's circle following an unplaced finish in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies. Her main competition comes from Watch Out World, a half-sister to 1996 Santa Anita Derby winner Cavonnier, and the minor stakes winner Global Finance.

In the eighth race, Blue Tiger has been withdrawn from a seven-furlong maiden claimer for 2-year-olds. The field of 11 is led by Sea Harbor, who is trained by John Sadler.
