Santa Anita carryover now $504,847

Steve Andersen|Jan 27, 2007

ARCADIA, Calif. - For the 11th time since the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting began on Dec. 26, there is a pick six carryover. The Saturday carryover of $504,847 is the third time that there has been a two-day carryover at the meet.

Saturdays carryover is the third highest of the meeting.

Interest figures to be high in Saturdays pick six, a day that features four stakes in the Sunshine Millions program for California-breds and Florida-breds. All of the Sunshine Millions races are in the first half of the program.

Saturdays pick six covers the fifth through 10th races on the 10-race card, and includes the final Sunshine Millions race, the $500,000 Turf. The Turf is led by Lava Man, the winner of four Grade 1 races in 2006.

Lava Man is a 4-5 chance to beat 12 rivals, including the stakes winners Icy Atlantic, El Don, Go Between, and Super Strut. The race will not include Revved Up, who was not shipped from Florida earlier this week after suffering a sore foot, according to trainer Christophe Clement. In another change, Sabre Baby will be ridden by Richard Migliore.

The final five races in the pick six have fields of eight or more.

The sixth race is a $20,000 claimer over 1 1/16 miles. The field of eight is led by Risen River and Energy Czar.

In the seventh race, Like His Style and Dead Solid Perfect are scratched from the also-eligible list. A starter allowance over 1 1/8 miles on turf, the race is wide-open, with a 4-1 morning line favorite in Agent Hanratty. Other contenders are Clarence Beeks, Tumbaga, Sentimental Daze, and Smart Hit.

There are nine 3-year-old maidens in the eighth race, which is run over 6 1/2 furlongs. Queen of the Catsle and Into Reality will dominate the betting.

In the ninth race, Past Tender, Conall Cearnach, and Phar to Win are scratched from a one-mile allowance race on turf. Stylin Cat, Cousin Joe, Lemon Law, and City Stormer are contenders in an open race.

The 10th race, for 3-year-old statebred maidens, will force bettors to spread. The field of 11 features Salah Mrs. D as a 7-2 morning-line favorite.
