Santa Anita carryover hits $700K

ARCADIA, Calif. A pick six carryover of $699,574 will be up for grabs when racing resumes Thursday at Santa Anita.

Bettors wagered nearly $1 million into Mondays pick six, chasing a carryover of $169,781. But for the second straight day, the wager proved elusive. The pick six sequence included only one winning favorite (El Falcon returned $5 in race 6); payoffs in the five other legs ranged from $9.40 to $24.

The $139,250 Irish OBrien Stakes (race 7) on Monday was won by Lightmyfirebaby ($19.20), a daughter of Unusual Heat ridden by Chantal Sutherland for trainer Barry Abrams.

The pick six on Thursday covers races 3-8 and includes three turf races. Santa Anita officials expect the pick six pool to exceed $3 million. The carryover into Thursday is the 21st of the meet, after just 53 days of racing.
