Santa Anita carryover at $536,394

ARCADIA, Calif. - A string of upsets on a wet-fast track at Santa Anita on Friday has led to a carryover of $536,394 for Saturday's program.

Saturday's pick six covers the fourth through ninth race, a span that includes two turf races, two sprints for maidens, the San Pasqual Handicap and a one-mile claimer for 4-year-olds.

The fourth race is for 3-year-old maidens over seven furlongs. Teton Forest, a first-time starter trained by Bob Baffert, is the 2-1 morning line favorite.

The fifth race was scheduled for turf as of late Friday afternoon, but rain on Friday could lead to a change of surface.

Vale of Wings, winless in two starts in the fall, is the 2-1 morning line favorite. She was beaten a nose in a similar race at Santa Anita in October. Saturday's race is her first start for trainer Jack Carava, having recently been purchased privately. The late-running Vamos Nina and the French import Burnished Steel are other contenders.

There are three jockey changes from the original entries - David Flores rides Sonia, Kevin Krigger rides Minamala and Jose Valdivia, Jr. rides Lady Thatcher.

The sixth race is for maidens over six furlongs. Touch Platinum is scratched.

In a wide-open race, Remo, who was second twice in the fall, makes his fifth start. Baffert runs Gassi, a first-time starter who was purchased for $425,000 as a yearling in 2001.

The San Pasqual Handicap is the seventh race. Olmodavor, the winner of the Native Diver Handicap at Hollywood Park last month, will try for his second stakes win. Nose the Trade, second in the Native Diver, is likely to be the second choice in the betting.

The eighth race is scheduled for 1 1-4 miles on turf. Speed of Light and Royal Price are scratched. Pellegrino, who placed in three major stakes in Argentina in 2002, makes his U.S. debut. Gassan Royal, first or second in his five career starts, is the 5-2 favorite on the morning-line.

In the last races, there are 10 runners in a one-mile race for 4-year-olds entered for claiming prices ranging from $18,000 to $20,000. Oberwald, second at this level on Nov. 14, is a top contender along with Charmer Baron, Harvest Festival and Royalty of Iowa.
