Santa Anita Carryover at $157,836

Steve Andersen|Feb 07, 2004

ARCADIA, Calif. - Large fields and losses by all six favorites at Santa Anita on Saturday has led to a pick six carryover of $157,836 for Sunday's program.

Sunday's pick six covers the fourth through ninth races. There are two sprints, two route races and two one-mile races on turf. There are no late scratches.

The fourth race is for maiden claimers over 5 1-2 furlongs. Oh So Sultry and Award Winning Team are top contenders. Oh So Sultry has been second in two of his five starts. Award Winning Team was eighth in his career debut in November, his lone start.

The fifth race is over one mile for $18,000 to $20,000 claimers. In a field of eight, L'Effaceur and Crystal Colony will be well bet.

The sixth race is for California-bred maiden sprinters. Run over 6 1-2 furlongs, the race has drawn. Miss Thirtyfour D, who has drawn the outside, is the likely favorite.

The seventh race is a starter allowance over a mile on turf. The race has drawn 10 entrants, the largest field on Sunday's program. Gem of Wisdom, at 3-1, is the morning-line favorite. Sky Reality, Time Honored, Bond Midnight and Arch Ability are other contenders.

Action This Day, the champion 2-year-old male of 2003, makes his 3-year-old debut in the $75,000 Sham Stakes, the eighth race. He is 2-1 on the morning-line, but is likely to be a shorter price. Master David, stakes-placed twice in this country since arriving from England, is another top candidate.

The last race is run over a mile on turf for 3-year-olds and has the day's shortest price. Boasting is even-money on the morning-line. Trained by Bobby Frankel, Boasting was beaten a length in his career debut on Jan. 17.
