California Flag will try for his third win in the $100,000 Morvich Stakes at Santa Anita on Monday.
California Flag won the Morvich in 2008 and 2009, but did not start in the race last year. In 2009, California Flag followed the Morvich victory with a 22-1 upset win in the BC Turf Sprint.
Monday’s Grade 3 Morvich Stakes is the eighth race on a nine-race program. The Morvich drew a field of eight, including Camp Victory, who was second in the Pat O’Brien Stakes, and the Bonde-trained Excessive Passion, a stakes winner at Pleasanton in July.
