Santa Anita: Blingo preps for Oaklawn Handicap

ARCADIA, Calif. – Blingo, the winner of the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes in February, and Eblouissante, a half-sister to 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, are bound for stakes in coming weeks.
Trainer John Shirreffs said on Friday that Blingo will run in the $500,000 Oaklawn Handicap over 1 1/8 miles at Oaklawn Park on April 12. Owned by Jerry and Ann Moss, Blingo was third in the Santa Anita Handicap on March 8 in his most recent start.
Friday, Blingo worked seven furlongs in 1:26.80.
Blingo, a 5-year-old gelding by Artie Schiller, has won 4 of 12 starts and earned $454,408. The San Antonio Stakes was his third career stakes win, but first in a graded race.
Eblouissante has not raced since finishing second in an allowance race on Feb. 13, her only start this year. Shirreffs said he plans to start Eblouissante in the $75,000 Santa Lucia Stakes over 1 1/16 miles on April 20. Owned by Ian Banwell’s St. George Farm Racing, Eblouissante worked six furlongs in 1:12.80 on Thursday.
“Her last few works have been good,” Shirreffs said.
Eblouissante, a 5-year-old mare by Bernardini, has won 2 of 4 starts and earned $77,800.
