Sandy’s Newsgirl and Cash Logistics won divisions of Indiana sire stakes on Wednesday at Indiana Grand.

Sandy’s Newsgirl, ridden by Fernando de la Cruz for trainer Tim Glyshaw and owner Ironhorse Racing, lost all six of her starts at age 2, albeit while showing speed and some ability, but on Wednesday went to the front and never was headed in the $79,300 Swifty Sired Stakes for 3-year-old fillies. She won by 6 1/4 lengths while clocking 1:14.18 for six furlongs on a slow-playing dirt track, paying $13 to win. Sandy’s Newsgirl is by Elite Squadron out of Holladay Dixie, by Dixie Union.

Favored Cash Logistics ($4.40) won the $80,350 Sagamore Sired Stakes by three-quarters of a length over tough-luck Nutty Train. Maters N Taters led this race until well into the homestretch before Cash Logistics, rallying from seventh under James Graham, wore him down. Nutty Train got shut off at the eighth pole, crossed precariously over heels to get outside, and was gaining on the winner, who clocked 1:13.44 for the six furlongs. Genevieve Londono trains Cash Logistics, a son of Unbridled Express and Trip to the Stars, by Trippi, for owners James and Charlie Hancock.

Three jockeys down in spill

Jockeys Agustin Gomez, Albin Jimenez, and Joseph Ramos all went down in a scary incident early in race 4 on Wednesday at Indiana Grand.

Gomez and Jimenez were taken to IU Methodist Hospital in nearby Indianapolis with undisclosed injuries, the track reported Wednesday evening. Ramos was able to walk off the track, as did his mount, Five Pics Please, and the horse Jimenez rode, Prettyhappy. Lichita, ridden by Gomez, walked onto a horse ambulance to be transported off the racetrack.

Justtequilatalkin and jockey Gabe Saez went to the lead in this 4 1/2-furlong 2-year-old race, but Saez attempted to steer toward the rail before he was clear of three horses to his inside. Lichita and Gomez, down on the rail, were sawed off and fell, which led to Jimenez and Prettyhappy, trailing on the inside, also falling. Strides after Lichita went down, Five Pics Please and Ramos clipped heels with the drifting leader and fell.

Saez is all but certain to face suspension from the Indiana Grand stewards for careless riding.
