Sandiva under consideration for The Very One

Sandiva, who finished second to Penwith when trying the main track last time out in the Royal Delta, is among 32 older females nominated to the Grade 3, $150,000 The Very One, a 1 3/16-mile grass race on March 5 at Gulfstream Park.
Sandiva won the Grade 3 Marshua’s River on turf here Jan. 9. She won the Grade 3 Suwannee River on this course in February 2015. She is one of seven horses trainer Todd Pletcher has nominated to The Very One.
Chad Brown has eight nominees, including Dacita, the winner of the Ballston Spa last summer at Saratoga. Dacita has not raced since finishing ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
Twilight Eclipse among nominees for Mac Diarmida
Twilight Eclipse began his 2015 campaign with a second-place finish in the Mac Diarmida Stakes and won the race in 2014, and he is among 28 older grass runners nominated to this year’s edition of the Grade 2, $200,000 race, set for March 5.
If he goes in the Mac Diarmida, it will mark the fourth straight year in which Twilight Eclipse has competed in the race, having finished fourth in 2013. On Friday, Twilight Eclipse worked five furlongs on dirt at Palm Meadows in 1:04.65.
Now 7, Twilight Eclipse, a gelding, owns seven wins in 29 starts and $1,822,986 in earnings. He scored the biggest win of his career last year in the Grade 1 Man o’ War at Belmont Park.
