San Onofre tops cast of sprinters in Los Angeles Stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
CYPRESS, Calif. – San Onofre, who won the Grade 3 Midnight Lute Stakes at Santa Anita in January, is a leading contender for Saturday’s $100,000 Los Angeles Stakes at 5 1/2 furlongs at Los Alamitos.
The Grade 3 Los Angeles Stakes is one of two stakes on Saturday’s program at Los Alamitos, along with the $100,000 Bertrando Stakes for California-bred milers.
San Onofre races for Aase Headley and is trained by her daughter, Karen. San Onofre was eighth in the Grade 2 San Carlos Stakes at seven furlongs at Santa Anita on March 12 but has worked well in the last month. The competition in the Los Angeles Stakes is expected to include the graded stakes winner Wild Dude and Yiannis, who was third in an optional claimer at Santa Anita last month.
The probable field for the Bertrando Stakes is led by Soi Phet, who won the race in 2014, and Poshsky, who was fourth in the Thunder Road Stakes at Santa Anita last Saturday.
