San Lorenzo holds on in Louisiana Million Futurity
San Lorenzo won his second $1 million race of the year Saturday night when he held for a neck victory in the Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Louisiana Million Futurity at Evangeline Downs.
Earlier this year, San Lorenzo won the $1 million Lee Berwick Futurity at Delta Downs.
“It’s so hard to qualify for these, let alone come back and win,” owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. said in a post-race interview broadcast by Evangeline.

San Lorenzo ($12.60) was always prominent and covered 400 yards in the slop in 19.40 seconds. David Alvarez was aboard the winner, one of three stakes victories he had on the closing-night card featuring four stakes. Hector Alcala trains San Lorenzo.
Fast Dashin Diamond finished second, a nose in front of favorite and third-place finisher A Double Corona.
San Lorenzo is a son of Coronas Leaving You. He earned $445,000 for the victory Saturday night to push his career earnings to $993,340.
Lifeinthefastlanes ($3.60) won her sixth straight race in the $273,763 LQHBA Breeders Derby and in the process set a track record, it was announced Saturday. She covered 400 yards in the slop in 19.30 seconds, winning by three-quarters of a length over Love the Way You Fly.
Following the race there was a rider's objection against the winner, but the stewards made no change to the order of finish
Lifeinthefastlanes has not lost in 2020, winning all six of her starts. Her other stakes wins this year include the $276,825 Delta Downs Louisiana-bred Derby.
Alvarez is the regular rider on Lifeinthefastlanes for trainer Kenneth Roberts Sr. The daughter of Jess Louisiana Blue races for Jason Richards and Michael LeBlanc and has a career mark of 8 for 10.
Evangeline is scheduled to open its Thoroughbred meet April 7.
