Sam’s Sister, Taris set for rematch

DEL MAR, Calif. – Sam’s Sister, best known for her win in the Grade 1 La Brea last December, and Taris, who has been idle since finishing second in the La Brea, are scheduled to meet anew Sunday in the Grade 3, $100,000 Rancho Bernardo Handicap for older female sprinters.
Sam’s Sister worked a half-mile in 50.20 seconds Tuesday morning for Jerry Hollendorfer, her trainer and co-owner. She most recently was third in the Desert Stormer at Santa Anita on June 14, her third straight loss. She was assigned top weight of 122 pounds for the Rancho Bernardo, two more than Taris.
Taris completed her preps with a five-furlong drill in 1:01.80 on Sunday for trainer Simon Callaghan. Taris is best known for her overpowering victory in the Grade 2 Raven Run at Keeneland last October.
Others expected for the 6 1/2-furlong Rancho Bernardo are Baruta, Oscar Party, Tesalina, Wasted at Midnight, and possibly Uzziel.
Also Sunday is the $150,000 Solana Beach Handicap for older female California-breds going one mile on turf. Smoove It, beaten a nose in the Grade 3 Wilshire in April, was assigned top weight of 122 pounds and will head a field that also could include Chati’s On Top, Chaulk O Lattey, Heat du Jour, Journey On, My Monet, and Tiz a Kiss.
