Same dates in California

The dates committee of the California Horse Racing Board proposed on Wednesday a 2006 racing calendar for the Southern California Thoroughbred circuit that is nearly identical to 2005.

The committee, which consists of commissioners Richard Shapiro and John Sperry, met at Del Mar. The committee will offer its recommendation to the full board at its next meeting, in Pomona on Sept. 22.

The 2006 calendar would begin with the Santa Anita winter meeting from Dec. 26, 2005, through April 23, 2007. Hollywood Park would run its spring-summer meeting from April 26 or 28 to July 17, followed by Del Mar from July 19 through Sept. 6, Fairplex Park from Sept. 8 through 25, Oak Tree at Santa Anita from Sept. 27 to Oct. 29, and Hollywood Park's fall meet from Nov. 1 through Dec. 17.
